carseat strap covers

Another one to cross of my to-do list - car seat strap covers.  Something very functional and needed since the dog decided to chew into one of the covers a long time ago.  They're basically like making potholders - four potholders (you know, two for each kid).  Here are a couple fun tutorials of similar strap covers here and here.  (do keep in mind if you decide to make some, to make sure they don't interfere with the other fuctioning parts of your child's particular car seat)

And while were on the topic of strap covers, figured I might as well show a really quick one I made last year for our bike trailer.  I just took long strips of fleece (about double the width of the strap plus about an inch seam allowance/wiggle room) and sewed them into tubes.  Don't bother turning the tubes right side out, fleece doesn't fray.  The best part is that you can adjust the strap length by just scrunching down the fleece.

happy biking!

  2. OMG - these are on my list too! The ones in my head weren't as cute as these, but I might have to mentally revise them. My daughter has a Britax carseat too and the straps really dig into her neck... especially when adjusting the tension. And, believe it or not, I've had plans to make some strap covers for my Burley bike trailer as well, so I can get out there and ride with her... but first I need to find a 13-month-old sized helmet!

Your strap covers are just beautiful - I hope mine look half as good!

  5. That's a great idea for the bike straps. Might make some for my youngest's bike seat. I've got a 2 seat trailer aswell but I don't / can't use it. My legs just can't cope with dragging children in it.

  7. I have the same jogging stroller! Now that it MAY finally be getting warm where I live, I need to make some of those fleece covers. I was noticing the straps are definitely rough on my 10 month old. Great idea.

It looks more comfortable!) need to make another set for the baby car seat...thanks for giving me a push! And great tip on the fleece for covers on the bike trailer! I'll have to try that one!

  19. Thank you so much for the idea on the bike seat strap covers! We just started biking with our 11 month old and the straps seemed a bit uncomfortable. His current limit is 10 miles before he gets fussy. Maybe with those covers we can go for 20 :)
