my bathroom

4.27.2010

I had gotten spring fever big time a few weeks ago now and decided to rip off some old shelving in our bathroom and spruce it up a bit.  I ended up repainting the walls (with the same paint) because the paint had gotten streaky when I had originally painted it a few years ago.

I picked up some little floating shelves at Target, the picture frame, and new towels and washcloths.  yay!

Of course I couldn't redo the bathroom without a little sewing involved.  I had picked up a few fat quarters of the Arcadia fabric collection a while back knowing that it would end up being something in our bathroom.  I ended up making a couple fabric baskets.

I love these round baskets, they came together pretty quickly.  I pieced in some linen and tried to make one shorter than the other, but only by a little over an inch.  I guess it's okay, but if I make more I'll know to make the size difference more noticeable so it doesn't look like a mistake.

The one is perfect for a roll of toilet paper and the other had some odds and ends in it.  I might even try and make a mini version to sit on one of the wall shelves.

I'd also like to note that these pictures were taken with me standing in our bathtub smooshed up against the corner with the camera above my head.  We have a SMALL bathroom.

Update: The blue paint color is Glidden Evermore: Overcast.

  3. Oh, I love it - the colors are so great!! Your bathroom is super-cute. We live in an old 1934 cottage so I love the vintage style of this bathroom. Might be small, but huge on charm!!

  5. You did a great job with your bathroom. It really looks more calming. I too have a lot of things to do around the house and it involves a lot of painting. But I have to wait until the weather is warmer.

  15. Nice work! I love it. You've given me a good idea with those floating shelves...there's one empty spot in my bathroom where the old owners left these giant metal anchors...now I can hang a shelf on them!

    And don't worry--I've taken many a picture scrunched into a corner ;)

  16. That looks so lovely now! I love that blue colour at the moment and am having something similar in my bedroom, whenever that might be!! Tell me, how are those shelves attached to the wall? My hubby always freeks out when I show him shelves like it.

Love your handiwork. The handsewn things are just beautiful. Great job. And I appreciate your discomfort in showing us your bathroom!

  20. Twisting and contorting your body to get a good shot is one of the most enjoyable parts of photography! ...or something! :o)

Your bathroom looks fabulous -- I need to get brave enough to do something to mine!

Is that TILE or linoleum?!! Please say tile so I can be uber-jealous of yet ANOTHER awesome detail in your home! :o)

  21. Ha ha . . . funny you should mention your awkward picture taking position. I always think it would be funny to have my husband take a picture of me taking my pictures - some of the positions I have to get in are pretty funny.

I really love your new Arcardia decor! The colors work perfectly with your bathroom.

  28. It's so beautiful and calming! I want that blue in my bathroom (someday when we have our own to paint)...do you remember the color name and brand? :)
And the baskets are such a good idea! Are they washable or will they lose their shape?

  30. Ha ha, that's how I took pictures of our bathroom when we remodeled it! :) Small is good for a lot of things, but not always for picture-taking in our little house. It looks great and the baskets are, of course, my favorite part.
