‘lil cuties

So I guess we’re at that age where you start getting invited to birthday parties.  So far we’ve gone to two.  This time I waited until the last minute to get a gift, so I decided that I’d make something for the little birthday girl.

Seems like Natalie loves her lil cutie pouch, she finds money randomly here and there and stashes it away.  Very cute.  So we picked out some fabrics the birthday girl might like and I made up a few and let Natalie pick out the one she wanted to give away.

It was fun to include a couple pony tail holders and 4 dollars inside for the 4 year old!

So if you’re in a time crunch, try out my lil cutie pouch tutorial, they’re really fun and I forgot how easy they are to make!  If it’s your first zipper, definitely give this one a try, I promise, it’ll be fun!  You can find the tutorial here.

And don’t forget to press these suckers, lots of steam and good press make them way cuter!

{ps the ballerina fabric came from fabricworm.com, it’s a nice canvas weight japanese print and too cute not to pass up!

  2. I’m going to try this this weekend – it’s zipper #2 for me, so I’m going to face my fear of zippers and attempt it!

  9. this might just be a perfect gift for my niece’s upcoming 4th birthday (along with a puzzle per her request). Did you also make the pony holders?

  10. Becky says:

I also want to know about the ponytail holders, I’d love to make some for my daughter.

  11. Anna says:

Here’s the scoop on the ponytail holders:
I just used 1 1/8″ covered buttons (you can get kits of them at any fabric type store or even walmart). And just loop the ponytail holder through the metal tab in the back. They’re a great way to use up tiny scraps!

Oh these are just too cute. :o) My 17 year old daughter and I are new followers of your blog and will be creating things you have tutorials on. :o) I would love to show you when we finish.
There is a new little button on my blog titled “bartering” where I am offering my handcrafted jewelry for fabric scraps, and would love for you to drop by, if you would like. :o)

Great gift idea! I’m kind of dreading when the kiddo gets old enough for all the birthday party hoopla. . .I know some folks whose kids have at least 1 or 2 parties a weekend to go to. Every weekend. Yikes. At least I’ll be armed with lots of cool crafty gift ideas.

I made a last minute gift on Tuesday–so last minute I didn’t get the button sewed on. 🙂 hee hee

I made a shower poof, a pencil/pen roll-up caddy, and a relaxing foot scrub all in fabulous matching ornages. 🙂 (It’s for an 11 year old–those tweens are fun to create for)

I went to a record 14 birthday parties last school year! I did make some homemade gifts. Girls are easier than boys. Love this idea because a)what boy wouldn’t love a cool boy print wallet and b)kids get a kick out of cash…even throw in loose change to sweeten the deal.

I love this! I can’t wait to try it out… and I like to hear that other people make gifts for birthday parties. I get so tired of buying commercial things that just don’t feel special…
