Sewing

my great find

Okay, I’m sure some of you will laugh at this.  But anyway.  I never go to thrift stores, sure I think it would be fun and love to hunt for treasures, but really, I just don’t take the time.  I’ve tried hitting garage sales around the area this summer with not much success.  I looked all summer for an upholstered chair or something I could re-cover.

Then we stumbled upon this gem:

My mom and I were shopping up in Minneapolis and we drove by a garage sale on the way to our next stop.  At first I said, “oh let’s stop, they have furniture!” and then “no don’t stop, I don’t want to take the time.”  Luckily my mom stopped anyway and we were just going to do a drive by to check things out when I spotted the bench!  I jumped out of the car and pretended no to jump for joy when I saw it was only $8.

Yippy!

So there you have it, it’s my find of the year and I plan on recovering it, but first I just want to stare at it for a while.

In other news, I’m back to work 3 days a week now instead of 2, so I’m still struggling with the adjustment.  Who would have thought that adding one more day would make such a difference?

I also have a fun something coming up for next week hopefully, so I’ll just be crossing my fingers hoping that I get over this cold I’ve got so I can get the project finished up!  I don’t think I’ve sewn anything in 5 days, now that’s a record!

What an excellent find! I love steals like that : )

I can empathize with you…I also work three days a week (and have a four year-old, a seven-year old and a full-time working husband.)

I admire folks who can work as well as blog daily (or even a few times a week), and I admire folks who can keep their Etsy shops updated. It takes a lot of time and effort and the hours easily get away…

Take care, and I hope you feel better soon.

  33. $8 is a steal! That bench looks way too good for such a small price tag! Those legs look as solid as tree trunks. Great shopping. I am looking forward to seeing this bench in the future.

Great bench. 2 ways to make the bench your own. First is to make an easy cover with elastic around the edge like a bottom sheet. You could even pad the top if you wanted to. The other is if you want to really want to do the upholstery thing. Use the old fabric as a pattern (old upholstery practice). I suggest you deemphasize the vinyl button & piping. Fabric piping would be in period & you again can reuse the piping, but I would strip the vinyl upholstery fabric. Good luck on the projects, they are coming out with some neat patterns. Again a suggestion, try canvas. It would be more durable.
