christmas star table runner

{Be sure to enter my giveaway, too}

Glad I was able to get this little project out of my head, maybe now I can move on to making some Christmas presents!  Do you ever get like that?  One track mind – must get this project done type of thing?  Okay, maybe it’s just me, but sometimes I just get fixated on a certain project on my to-do list and everything else gets put aside.

So I actually had almost an entire day to myself this weekend, all by myself in my own house.  YES!!!! That never happens – ever. I’m usually lucky for an hour or so here and there.  Each year my husband’s family gets together to do a cookie bake and decorating sessions with all the cousins, so I shipped them off for the day.  It was really nice. Got to wrap presents, clear out about 6 bags full of goodies for goodwill, and even decided to do a little sewing.

I’m still using up my fabric from my other Christmas projects from this year and last.  So far I’ve made a tree skirt, 4 stockings, one advent calendar, and now this table runner.  Not too shabby, plus there’s a bit leftover that I might force myself into making into a pillow (okay, I probably won’t have to force myself into making a pillow, hahaha).
I had to throw in some hand quilting in there, not really because I planned it, but because once I had the top all sewn up it looked like it need some extra contrast to make the stars really punch.  And finished it off with some shot cotton for the binding.
All in all I’m happy with the way it turned out, I even machine stitched on the binding again, extra speedy!

This looks great – I’m totally amazed at your talent. And the fact that you have time to make all of this stuff! I’m up to my eyeballs trying to get everything done. And thus, I swear, (again) that next year I will start on Christmas stuff in January and work all year on it for a stress free holiday. :)

I know how it feels:))can’t get this project out of your head and in same time has no time,or enough materials to have it finished. But another project already pops up and your mind is already involved…
Your runner looks great! I love asimmetrical stars-they look very modern.

Love the added pop of the hand quilting. Really gives it that extra somethin’-somethin’.

That’s so pretty. The Pop Garden is perfect. I would have never thought to use it for Christmas, but it’s just right. I have some scraps, could make some ornaments. Hmmm.

Yes, I’m that way too……..sometimes a project just speaks louder than others.

The cool thing is getting the decorations out the next year and seeing the things that you had made the year before and have forgotten about. It’s like they’re new all over again !

    Pretty work !

That’s really pretty. Love the hand quilting. And, yeah, I’m the same way – fixating on something till it’s done! And, I love moments alone in the house! So precious. So few.

That’s beautiful! And I totally get the one-track mind thing. It usually happens to me when I have something else I NEED to be working on, like Christmas gifts!

Isn’t it lovely to have time to yourself?! I rarely get any, sometimes I have to hide in the bathroom for a few mins just to clear my head, lol!

    Happy Thursday!
    hugs, margie

Nope, you aren’t the only one with the one-track-mindset. My mother showed me a candle mat she made out of a hexagon a couple weeks back. Yes, you guessed it, everything else was set aside to see if I could figure the pattern out. Success! But now I am that much further behind on what I SHOULD be doing. :o) Your table runner is a stunner. Thanks for sharing and inspiring.

It’s lovely! I’m planning on making a Star pillow for Christmas (after I finish my current Christmas pillow – agreed on the one track mind). Maybe I’ll do your hand-quilting. It looks so nice!

Oh my gosh, I am SO like that – if I have an idea or design in my head, it must get out. It’s like I am stuck until it is complete. Gorgeous runner – love the stars and the fabric!!

I love it! My sewing guild made a quilt out of wonky stars a few months ago, and it was my first quilt experience! It was so cool to see my star with everyone else’s! Love what you did with it!

  32. Kristie 12.15.2010 at 8:59 pm #

    Very cute!

I am totally with you on the one track mind thing. Crap can be piled up all around me, kids running wild, but I am focused on my thing. And nothing makes me focus on an “unnecessary” sewing project like a deadline for something else! No wonder I never get enough sleep!

A house to yourself for a day? Envy envy envy!!

  33. Jill 12.15.2010 at 9:27 pm #

I couldn’t agree more with you about having to get a project out of my head to move on!

    Love the table runner!

  34. sew grown 12.16.2010 at 2:14 pm #

I love it! You have the best taste!

  35. QuiltyGirl 12.16.2010 at 11:06 pm #

    Cute!

I also find it necessary to work through a project that’s on my mind before i can finish other projects!

I live the addition of hand quilting,

  36. Maxabella 12.16.2010 at 11:27 pm #

I love this! I made the same tree skirt this year. Now I know what to do with my scraps. Did you follow a pattern? Or do those type stars have a name?
