It’s about time I introduce you to my ultra cute nephew, Grant.
I can’t believe he’s almost 6 months old already!
Now that I’ve lured you in with some baby cuteness, on with the show…
Well, Grant was dedicated to his church a few weeks ago and of course I had to make him something. I found this super cute race car fabric on Superbuzzy and knew it would be perfect for him since his dad (my brother) is a auto cross super star.
I figured Grant would need to keep snug and warm when he’s out cheering on the track this spring, so the Baby in the Hood Jacket from Anna Maria Horner‘s Handmade Beginnings was just too cute to pass up. I’ll be honest, I actually waited and waited to make this, it looks pretty complicated, doesn’t it? Well, the directions are just awesome from Anna Maria, and so it was lots fun to sew up! I threw in a mix of polka dots, a solid yellow and some Greenfield Hill by Denise Schmidt. I was so excited when I finished.
I ended up making the 12 month size and I think it’ll be just right for him through spring (hopefully, that is if he doesn’t bust out a big growth spurt).
I decided to pair the coat with some fun wooden race car toys I found from Green Bean Toys on Etsy. I love finding local etsians, especially with cute toys like this. I even bought some for our house.
Glad we could help celebrate your special day Grant, we love you! Oh and Happy Birthday to your mommy today. yay!
What a cute little boy, and a great jacket in wonderful fabric! Great trim too. I loved making this sort of thing for my boys when they were little! Brings back memories!
He´s gorgeous – and the jacket is looking awesome! 🙂
Adorable! The jacket is cute too! 🙂
Oh, that coat is darling. I want to make my little boy one! Too sweet!
Fantastic jacket and the cars are cute too!
very very very cute! I need to make a new rain jacket for my daughter, she seems to outgrown hers (how do they grow so fast?!!!) Luckily, that was the very first pattern I ever made – so have something to work with :).
I love the contrasting fabric for the button closure on yours – very, very cute!!!
That is a handsome boy with a handsome name (my boy is Grant too :))… I’ve made two of these jackets and have LOVED the results. The fabric combos are endless, I need another baby to make one for! -Erin
That is so cute! I would buy that book just for that pattern, but I bet it only goes up to 12 months
This jacket is adorable as well as your nephew. 🙂
Anna – That is seriously cute. Everything you make looks completely flawless. Wow. Way to go.

I have had my eye on that book and have been ogling the photos in the flickr group that goes with it – http://www.flickr.com/groups/handmadebeginnings/ (which I’ve just noticed you’ve posted in already!) But my son is now 18 months so not quite in the ‘beginnings’ stage. There’s always next time…!
wow, wow, wow. You are amazing Anna!
I got that sewing book by Anna Maria the day it came out in store because I wanted to make that Jacket. But I have not touched that pattern yet because it looks out of my league. If you say it is easy I guess I can crack it open and give it a try. O and I like the fabrics great coordination!

You know I need to make this jacket. I hope I have enough of the fabric. I want to make a clone. everything is perfect. Only problem is I’m goin to try to size it up larger than the pattern comes. Fingers crossed.

You did a beautiful job! Yes, I was certainly lured in by the image of your darling nephew, but his new little jacket was almost as cute! I just love it, and this is just another reason (like I needed one!) to go and pick up the book that I’ve almost bought about 8 million times now. Thanks for sharing!
