pooches and pickups dog bed & a giveaway! [closed]

5.24.2011

[Thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway!]

I was really excited when Laurie sent me a few fat quarters of her newest line Pooches and Pickups to play with.  My mom and dad have a black lab, so the prints were especially fitting for them.  I hope I didn't take the fabric design too literally - but I made a dog bed for their dog, Cinder.

If you're a dog or cat lover, you know how much they love their beds (or yours).  Cinder was due for a new one to fit inside her dog crate.

I made the body of the bed from black twill and included a zip at the bottom for easy removal for washing.  And a little freezer paper stencil let's everyone know who's bed it really is!

How about some Pooches and Pickups for yourself?  I'm giving away a fat quarter bundle of Laurie's Pooches and Pickups collection (a total of 6 fat quarters in two super cool colorways).  Oh, and if you don't want to wait to win, you can also purchase her fabric at Hawthorne Threads, Fat Quarter Shop, and Pink Chalk Fabrics.

To enter:

  • One entry per person.  Please leave your email address in your comment. You can leave it in a format like this if you wish: anna [at] gmail [dot] com
  • Tell me what you'd make with the fabric if you win, or what the craziest thing you've ever made for your pet?!
  • There will be one winner chosen, loot includes 6 fat quarters from the Pooches and Pickups collection.
  • Open to international entries.
  • Giveaway ends Wednesday, May 25th at 10pm (central time).

And if you're feeling the giveaway frenzy, go check out Rebecca's Blog, Chasing Cottons for her giveaway!

Our dog, Ruby, loves squeaky toys and routinely tears up those plushy toys form the pet store. So, I grabbed some twill that I got cheap and reused a squeaky and some stuffing and made her a squeaky toy. Now she's torn a hole in it so I have to patch it (that was idea since I have so much of the twill).

BEAUTIFUL fabric! I love it:) We have three dogs and if I won I would make a new bed for our Frenchie - Maxwell. He needs a new bed all his own since our other two little ones - Shih Tzu/Pom mix and a Yorkie/Affenpincher mix are always hogging the dog bed. The craziest thing I've ever made for the dogs was when our baby - Izzy was fixed - she was nibbling on her stitches and I didn't want to get her a cone so I took a pair of old tube socks and cut them down to make a tube that fit over her belly and her stitches while she was healing. All it involved was a pair of scissors and an old sock but it was darling and fit the bill perfectly:)

Great doggie bed!! I love this fabric and seem to be following it around the internet, trying to win some. The craziest thing I ever made for a pet was the stuffed buns hotdog Hallowe'en costume I made for our miniature dachshund, Flynn, when he was a puppy. Complete with felt mustard, ketchup and relish down his back. He wore it happily when he was 9 months old, but a year later was much too proud to be caught in such an obvious costume.

We just brought home our first dog, so he still needs a real bed. I like your idea-it might go into that, or if these baby I'm carrying turns out to be a boy it could be part of a cute little guy quilt

That dog bed is such a great idea. And here I was, trying to help my friend come up with a birthday gift for her stepdad, who has 6 dogs and is in love with each and every one of them. A dog bed is perfect! I would probably use the fat quarters to make that, or a little tube lined with fur for my cat to hide and play in.

Thanks for the giveaway.

What a great fabric line name, "Pooches and Pickups"! I love it! I have an old '58 Airstream that we have been "refreshing" and this fabric line would be so perfect in it. I would definitely make two cute beds for the pooches to put in that 'ol '58. And with the leftovers make them both a couple of scarves and maybe one for mommy too!

That is one great pup bed and embroidering the name on the side is soooo clever! If I won, I'd sew another bed - my little guy has several and he plays with them as much as naps on them. This one could be a new "tv body slam pillow"!!!! Thanks so much for the chance.

Hey Anna - if I won, I would make a play mat for my upcoming grandchild - they have a Boston Terrier - I wonder how she will get along with baby.

Brigette Joy said...

The dog fabric will go in my daughters quilt, she loves doing the baby sign for dog (the only sign she does so far). Today I find out if my second baby is a boy or a girl. If I'm having a boy, I'll make something for him with the trucks. If not I'll make something for my friend with twin boys!

Pam said...

I would love to win!! I'm coming to you from Laurie's blog where I saw Cinder's adorable bed that you made. I'm currently working on a backpack using this fabric for my grandson. I would use the fat quarters to make him something else. The funniest thing I've ever made for my dog is a pair of pee pee pants. He loved to hike his leg (anywhere). When sporting his pee pee pants he didn't do it.
