pooches and pickups dog bed & a giveaway! [closed]

[Thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway!]

I was really excited when Laurie sent me a few fat quarters of her newest line Pooches and Pickups to play with.  My mom and dad have a black lab, so the prints were especially fitting for them.  I hope I didn’t take the fabric design too literally – but I made a dog bed for their dog, Cinder.

If you’re a dog or cat lover, you know how much they love their beds (or yours).  Cinder was due for a new one to fit inside her dog crate.

I made the body of the bed from black twill and included a zip at the bottom for easy removal for washing.  And a little freezer paper stencil let’s everyone know who’s bed it really is!

How about some Pooches and Pickups for yourself?  I’m giving away a fat quarter bundle of Laurie’s Pooches and Pickups collection (a total of 6 fat quarters in two super cool colorways).  Oh, and if you don’t want to wait to win, you can also purchase her fabric at Hawthorne Threads, Fat Quarter Shop, and Pink Chalk Fabrics.

To enter:

  • One entry per person.  Please leave your email address in your comment. You can leave it in a format like this if you wish: anna [at] gmail [dot] com
  • Tell me what you’d make with the fabric if you win, or what the craziest thing you’ve ever made for your pet?!
  • There will be one winner chosen, loot includes 6 fat quarters from the Pooches and Pickups collection.
  • Open to international entries.
  • Giveaway ends Wednesday, May 25th at 10pm (central time).

And if you’re feeling the giveaway frenzy, go check out Rebecca’s Blog, Chasing Cottons for her giveaway!

  55. krisgray says:

Our dog, Ruby, loves squeaky toys and routinely tears up those plushy toys form the pet store. So, I grabbed some twill that I got cheap and reused a squeaky and some stuffing and made her a squeaky toy. Now she’s torn a hole in it so I have to patch it (that was idea since I have so much of the twill).

  56. Tez says:

I have a gorgeous, Giant Schnauzer. She is a huge sook and likes full body contact with one of us, any time she can get it! Make poop bag carriers out of the fat quarter. It hooks on her collar and she carries her own pooper scooper bags.

I have recently made blanket coats for my 3 goats though… not crazy but needed.

  83. Raesha says:

BEAUTIFUL fabric! I love it:) We have three dogs and if I won I would make a new bed for our Frenchie – Maxwell. He needs a new bed all his own since our other two little ones – Shih Tzu/Pom mix and a Yorkie/Affenpincher mix are always hogging the dog bed. The craziest thing I’ve ever made for the dogs was when our baby – Izzy was fixed – she was nibbling on her stitches and I didn’t want to get her a cone so I took a pair of old tube socks and cut them down to make a tube that fit over her belly and her stitches while she was healing. All it involved was a pair of scissors and an old sock but it was darling and fit the bill perfectly:)

Direction-reading fail. Please delete post 104–so sorry. Obviously I have not had enough caffeine today. The craziest thing I’ve ever made for a pet is food. They’re called satin balls, made specifically for very, very underweight dogs to help them gain weight. We used to foster rescue dogs, and would occasionally get dogs that needed some rehab. Satin balls consist of really yummy things like raw hamburger, heavy cream, oats and full-fat peanut butter. Yummy!

  107. Peg says:

I can’t decide whether I’d use it to make my dog Max a new travel bag for all his stuff (we take him everywhere), or make a lap quilt for my nephew Todd. It would also appeal to the little kid in my very grown up husband!

Great doggie bed!! I love this fabric and seem to be following it around the internet, trying to win some. The craziest thing I ever made for a pet was the stuffed buns hotdog Hallowe’en costume I made for our miniature dachshund, Flynn, when he was a puppy. Complete with felt mustard, ketchup and relish down his back. He wore it happily when he was 9 months old, but a year later was much too proud to be caught in such an obvious costume.

  126. Micmacker says:

Thanks for giveaway – this new collection is great. I am currently without dog or truck (I think I’m living an old-fashioned country song), so I’d work these into a quilt. I made my own guinea pig cage, because all the cages that are sold at pet stores are waaaaay too small.

  218. Erin says:

The craziest thing I’ve ever made for one of my pooches is a “tail tourniquet.” My poor dog, Roscoe, is part boxer, part stupid and the big guy chews his tail if he gets a bug bite, an itch, or if the wind blows the wrong way. So, I decided I would dress his tail with a homemade balm and fit it with a tourniquet of sorts to restrict his chewing and help his tail to heal.

That worked for all of 5 minutes.

Once I realized he would just chew off the fabric, I realized it would have to be his neck that was immobilized, not just more layers of fabric to chew through to get to his tail! LOL

My husband laughs every time he thinks of the poor pitiful looks Roscoe gave us wearing that stupid tail sleeve. I thought it was a good idea though! thanks to the vet, we have a neck brace for him to wear with a little more dignity if he starts chewing again 🙂

    Thanks for the give-away!
