swoon for mom

Here’s my finished swoon.

This quilt was really special for me to make.  I had gotten some Miscellany fabrics and kept thinking how much they reminded me of something my mom would love.  Plus I’ve always wanted to make her a quilt (I’ve dumped enough bags and totes on her to stuff her closets).

I’m was crazy excited when I got it back from being quilted the other day.  I could not sew the binding on fast enough, wrap it up, and dash it over to my mom and dad’s house to surprise her.  I could barely keep my lips shut these past few weeks.

I love my mom, she’s my best friend.  She’s been such a huge support for me.  I’ve learned an amazing amount of things from her and I am so grateful for that.

[I had to include this shot of this Annie's Farm Stand text fabric, you see, it's perfect because my mom runs the local farmers market (in my hometown in Minnesota no less) - so the Minnesota Grown text had to be in the block!]

And because I was so excited and wanted to make a label, I quick did this one on my machine, haven’t ever used the letters function before, but it was pretty cool.

Quilted by the lovely Lindsay, owner of  Eileen Quilts.  Thank Lindsay, you’re amazing!  Pieced by me, machine stitched binding.  Wohoo!

And a special thanks to my mom for holding up the beast in a 60 mph wind storm on top of the bluff at dusk! ♥

i forgot to blog about it

I’m sure you guys have heard about the new Fabric-by-Fabric One-Yard Wonders book by Rebecca Yaker & Patricia Hoskins, right?  Well, I got my copy, gosh, a couple months ago.  And I’ve got a project in it!  Pretty cool.  I’m just super excited to be a part of this really awesome book, and I’m not just saying that because I’m in it.  There’s 101 projects, yep, 101.  So if you’re into sewing, I definitely think this little (okay maybe it’s not so little) gem is well worth the moola.

Check it out sometime, there are tons of other awesome bloggers in there, so it’s really cool to flip through the biography pages, hey I know her!

[ha, I promise this is a crib sheet and not just a lump of fabric, just loved the way the light was coming in my room this morning]

I also made a crib sheet for my friend, she’s due at the beginning of April, so I’m making a crib set with quilt for her.  We picked out this awesome shot cotton, so soft and silky for the crib sheet.  Unfortunately it has some huge snags in it.  We decided to make it into a sheet anyway and make another one out of this purple Kona (sorry, totally blipped on the name of the color, it’s really pretty though).

[future binding for the quilt!]

I’ll show you the whole set up once it’s all said and done.  :)

pattern coming soon!

Just sharing a few shots today of my new pattern (should be out in a week or so once my lovely and generous pattern testers have their way with it).

{large size option, squared flap}

I’ve seen envelope style clutches getting pinned all over the place and just had to cave in a work up a pattern with lots of options!

  • 2 sizes
  • 2 flap styles
  • wrist strap option
  • thin shoulder strap option
  • piping option
  • and of course lots of organizing goodies for the inside (zippers and card holders and pockets!)

{small size option, wrist strap, pointed flap}

Of course I begged Lizzy House to send me some of her new line Hello Pilgrim to make a couple samples with.  I love Hello Pilgrim the colors are so fresh!

Pattern should be available next week!  ♥

hanging around

I know it’s been pretty quiet around here lately.  I honestly miss being able to post and sew more.  I’ve got a few things to share today though….

Here’s a little sneak peek of proof that indeed I have been sewing:

I’ll be talking more about what’s in that picture next week, so you’ll just have to wait. :)

I’ve also been really into trying to simplify things as much as possible.  There were some pretty big life changes last fall.  For my whole family.  While it was really hard to swallow all of  it then (and still is), it seems like gradually those changes are actually working in our favor, bad things turning into good.  I’ve been trying to focus on the good things we have going.  This seems really what it’s all been about lately:

I also stumbled over a couple of books at our library about intentional living.  Turns out one of the authors has a really cool blog, Simple Mom.

1} The Joy of Less by Francine Jay;  I just started reading through this one, it’s really amazing.  Even though I’m only a few chapters in, it seems to really make you understand what the benefits are of simplifying your life.  Watching what you bring into your house really made sense to me.  I always wondered how we ended up with so much junk, but as I’ve stepped back (and not made as many trips to Target) I’ve really been able to keep that from happening.  My major crime used to be buying stuff at the dollar spot!

2} Organized Simplicity by  Tsh Oxenreider ; I’ve really been enjoying this book so far, it’s a lot common sense type things, but I love a couple things especially.  She has a ton of natural recipes for household products, they’re amazing, probably the kinds of things our grandmother’s used to use.  I also am really pumped about the 10 day sweep.  She guides you through each room and different ways to keep it organized and clean.  I think I love that most because I’m pretty easily distracted, so the list really helps.

Lastly (if you’re still reading that is), I’ve got a new pattern coming out soon.  Do you want to see some previews of it?  I’m hoping to wrap up the majority of the pattern this weekend.  Yay!

ringo pie: camera!

The last (and super late) installment of the first round of Ringo Pie.  If you’re curious, you can check out my previous blocks here.

Amy of Badskirt requested all things camera.  I was super excited about the theme and it took me forever to decide on a design, although I still  have one more idea that I just might have to sew up.

I was just excited to be part of this group of talented ladies, and I’m hoping I’m qualified for the next round. Eeek!

The only thing I didn’t notice until it was daylight, was that my iron had been spitting up a little water and left a couple really faint brownish marks on the green background, I’m thinking it’ll come out in the wash.  :(

Hope you have a great weekend. ♥
