big zip top bag
Well, had to make this. A glorified large version of the open wide zippered pouch. Yes, it's true. Not perfect, need to figure out what the heck I did wrong with the metal zip (besides accidentally sewing it into the side seam - twice).
Little leather handles (purchased here), wish I had some wider leather though.
The best part? This handy little secret exterior pocket, yep, there's two one on the front, other on the back. I might test it out to see what I'll use it for or maybe just sell it on instagram, haven't decided yet. It's big, big enough to fit a small kid in kind of big.
And thank you to my neighbors for their lovely wood pile. Cool background - check!

Oh I always sew my first bit into the side seams, it never looks as nice and neat as in your tutorials and I have made 4 in the last two days.
ReplyDeleteLove the exterior print fabric. Where did you get it?

ReplyDeleteIt's a suzuko koseki fabric, I actually bought it at my local quilt shop: Olive Juice Quilts a year or so ago.
ReplyDeleteoh and tini-uk. maybe try moving the zipper stop end farther away from the edge, an inch instead of 3/4"...
ReplyDeleteLove this. I have a tote that I use a lot but its not zippered and I really dislike the fact that everyone can see what I'm carting around as well as the fact that I can easily dump the entire bag on accident.
ReplyDeleteLove it Anna! Your fabric choices are fab and those leather straps are the perfect finishing touch!
ReplyDeleteI'm always interest to see how people figure out the straps on knitted or sewn purses/totes... was it tricky to sew the leather straps on this tote??
ReplyDeleteyou might test it out? pick me! pick me!
looks like this would make a handy tote to take to the beach here in the land of 10,000 lakes :)
i think you could hide a couple of kids in there.hah.ah.a.a...That is way too big for me but if you did have a couple of kids that is a great size.
ReplyDeleteOhhh I love it!!! Just think of all the things you could carry around!!!!
ReplyDeletethis looks so fun! i love the fabrics you choose every time. i want one, add it to the list right! xo
ReplyDeletevery cute - looks like a great beach bag and i love hidden pockets! that's so cool! you're just churnin' 'em out these days, girl! :)
ReplyDeleteYour choice in materials is rad. I love the mix of textures! Big bags are hard for me to figure out (I tend to load them full of stuff I don't need) but i bet you can find the perfect use for it!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love big bags! You should totally make a pattern for this. :)
ReplyDeleteSuper gorgeous!!!! Looks awfully difficult with the pocket and zipper and all.
ReplyDeletevery cool! i agree, the fabrics are just great. i like the leather handles too.
ReplyDeleteYou always have a great eye for fabric choices, Anna. the bag looks great!
ReplyDeleteanother vote for a pattern, love big bags and this one is super cute!
ReplyDeleteBig bags are my friend and your fabric choice is great!

Looks perfect for summer days out - my kids break up from school in a week and I cannot WAIT.
ReplyDeleteEEK! This is awesome, I love, love it! :)
ReplyDeleteadorable! the whole thing!
ReplyDeleteHow funny! I just made the large bag yesterday and was thinking that it is the perfect size for a purse, and how can I attach handles to make it one? I like what you've done with the leather handles. Will be trying this out today!
ReplyDeleteSo awesome!
ReplyDeletelove this, really!
ReplyDeleteI made two small bags already, one following your tutorial dimensions, and one not. Then I was thinking of doing this exact same thing, leather handles and all! Looks like you beat me to it!
ReplyDeleteDo the leather straps stain shirts? or am I worrying needlessly? :P
ReplyDeleteI made a tote bag for a friend and they wanted leather straps, but I just used cotton webbing (like for belts). I wasnt sure how leather would work out.
Thanks
Great post!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog.
Shall we follow each other?
xoxo

ReplyDeleteI really love this bag, my favorite features are the zipper top and the pockets. These are must haves for my bags. Lovely fabric too!
