DIY chalk cloth table topper

Well, this one has a long story behind it, but I’ll keep it short.

I had to try sewing with some chalk cloth a long time ago.  Perfect table topper for our play table.

 How to:
1.  Lay down chalk cloth right side up, lay table top down on top of it.
2.  Trace with chalk around your table.
3.  Cut out.
4.  Prime the chalk cloth by rubbing chalk all over it and wiping off.
5.  Sew 1/2″ double fold bias tape around edge using a denim needle (the chalk cloth is pretty thick).
6. Done!

It’s really been nice having it, the topper doubles as a table cloth and protects the table.  And what kid (or adult) doesn’t love chalk?  I do!

star twirl skirt

Stars are in.  It’s true.  Well, at least at our house.  I could not stop myself from getting this star knit fabric from  I had pinned this skirt from J. Crew.  Of course by the time I thought it might be on clearance or something it was all sold out.  Sad face.

So I was going to make a Figgy’s circle skirt with it, but the order got messed up and I only got sent a half yard.  We made it work by just doing a two tier gathered skirt with a knit waistband.  So the waistband is a little loose, I forgot that particular fabric stretched and kept on stretching, not great for a waistband.

It’s still cute.

printstagram goodies

For all of you loving instagram lately, here’s just another reason why you should.  I recently ordered a few goodies from Printstagram.  Got them in the mail the other day and I was so excited!!  I think it’s a great deal.  I rarely print off pictures anymore, they just sit on the computer mostly.  Printstagram is a great and super easy way to get the pictures you love printed.  Simple.  Love that.

So I ordered a set of Instagram stickers and some of the Miniprints.  They are to die for!! the little stickers are so cute.  I can see myself using them for all sorts of things.  Of course I’m going to have a hard time sharing them with my kids so I’m sure I’ll be placing another order soon.  (PS. You can find me @noodlehead531)
Just thought you’d like to know.  Oh and don’t forget to enter the Aurifil giveaway from the last post, I’ll be closing the giveaway at the end of the day and will be drawing winners tonight.

Zakka Style Sew Along: Sweet Memories Photo Frame

Welcome to Week 21 of the Zakka Style Sew Along! The sew along is being led by Lindsey and Amy. They have invited 24 bloggers to sew the projects found in Rashida Coleman-Hale’s book, Zakka Style

Zakka Style Sew Along

Today I’m sharing the Sweet Memories Photo Frame project designed by Ayumi Takahashi.  It’s a super big honor to be sewing up Ayumi’s design.  If you’ve been hiding under a rock, you can find Ayumi’s blog Pink Penguin right here.

I was really surprised by this project!  It was fun to make, my girls picked out the patchwork fabrics and it didn’t take more than an hour to make.  Luckily I had all the supplies on hand.  If you’re not into much crafting, you’ll need chipboard and spray adhesive and a glue gun.  I think it’s the first time I used any of those supplies in a year or more.

So that’s a good thing for those who don’t want to sit at the sewing machine all day.  It requires a fair amount of hand sewing, so it would be fun to take along on a road trip and then bring home and finish later.

Okay, don’t stop there! You have a chance to win a pack of awesome threads from Aurifil. I’ve been using Aurifil for almost a year now, and it’s amazing. I’ve got 5 packs to give away

Just leave me a comment to enter! [Giveaway now closed, thanks for entering!]

  • One entry per person.  Please leave your email address in your comment. You can leave it in a format like this if you wish: anna [at] gmail [dot] com, it’s up to you though, if you have your email listed in your blogger profile, that works too!
  • I’ll close comments on Thursday August 23rd and pick winners.

And if you are making the Sweet Memories Photo Frame this week, don’t forget to post a photo of your finished project in the Flickr pool and link it up to Lindsey’s blog, LR Stitched, for a chance to win a $75 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop. WOW!! Can I enter Lindsey?  :)
