Yep, made my first Washi Dress. I seriously had to make it, like. right. now., so I didn’t have to watch everyone in the entire sewing community make one until I fooled around enough and eventually made one in twenty years or so.
Firstly, it is so comfy. The shirring on the back makes this probably one of the most comfortable garments I’ve ever made. I have pretty wide shoulders and usually a lot of patterns are pretty snug, but this is perfect.
Secondly, I love the little sleeves. They’re really similar to the dress that I made here, so cute, and give just the right amount of coverage!
Thirdly, the flexibility. I’m pretty sure anyone who makes one will want to make multiple versions and put on their own little washi parade. I think I’m going to plan on making a sleeveless version for wintertime to wear to work with a cardigan, maybe a tunic or two. I really am a pants kind of girl.
I made this in a medium. I tried muslins in both medium and large sizes, but I’m glad I went with the medium. I might even try doing an SBA on my next one.
Fabric is Summerlove by Art Gallery. a leetle bit wrinkly, but it’ll work!
anna ~ it is gorgeous!!! so lovely on you and so flattering!! perfection. i can see it as a tunic with some jeans….
Both you and the dress look gorgeous! It would look fab in all the variations you suggested too :o)
Gorgeous! And I love the fabric you picked – very golden summery!

Absolutely gorgeous! This pattern is on my list, can’t wait to make it.
So pretty! Those colors look awesome on you!
Beautiful, lovely colour on you!
So puuurty!! I love the colors – they remind me of summer turning into fall. And I’m dying to make a lil Washi parade of my own too. The only problem is deciding which fabric to make it with first! I swear, each new fabric I see, I think, “that’d make a cute washi!” 😛
So lovely! The fabric is delightful and the cut looks perfect! Great job 🙂
really pretty. great colors on you too.
Looks awesome on you! I think we should all wear our Washi’s on Friday night at the Sewing Summit. 🙂
I think this is going to be my first ever garment making endeavour! I just love it! and it has looked great on every size person I’ve seen it on! I need this pattern–I wish we lived closer so you could help me make it but I’m certainly going to give it my best effort!
Lovely!
I looks beautiful, now I’m even more eager to make one! ,
Beautiful. Love the colors!
Very Cute Dress! I really like it. I would never make a muslin, I just pray that my sewing talents take me that far… which they don’t, lol. I think that the fit is great. I haven’t ventured too far into clothes making. I know things are just intimidating until you try but sometimes they are intimidating when you try. At least sometimes 🙂 Great dress, thanks for sharing.
Your version looks fantastic…I love the color and fabric that your chose (I’m so jealous that you can pull off orange)!
Awesome job Anna!
Your washi looks great Anna! I jus got done making the muslin for a tunic version. I can’t wait to see the others that you make.
Gorgeous! It looks wonderful you AND incredibly well-made! I just bought some of that fabric, now I wish I had bought enough to make myself a dress (and that I had the skill to do so).
How does one dress just look so good on EVERYONE? I love that fabric, art gallery is always the softest.
