mini quilt
I loved making this project! It was so fun to sit down and just sew it up. I had been planning on making this mini quilt (aka, table topper) for my mom's table since I made her this fancy apron a few years ago. Since then, I've had it planned and fabric set aside, so for Christmas I decided I'd better make my move.
Improv crosses with a little sashing, seriously so fun. I tried some organic quilting and it was a blast. I love the way it looks all together. The sashing is robert kaufman essex yarn dyed linen in flax, and it washed up beautifully. I've had it forever and just hadn't used it yet. So if you haven't got some tucked away, I highly recommend grabbing some. So soft!
Emily helped me pick out the binding. I think it really sets it off. I'm lucky I was a part of Pink Chalk Fabrics Solids club a couple years ago. I was able to stock up on so many great fat quarters that I normally wouldn't have purchased. Now I find myself using them all the time.

ReplyDeleteWow, so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great table topper. I will put this as a favorite, so later when I can quilt I can pull it up to remind me. I need a table topper on the living room coffee table. This would go so well!
ReplyDeleteLovely. Your mom's a lucky woman!
ReplyDeleteWow, your binding work is PERFECT! What method do you use, mine always ends up so sloppy :(
ReplyDeleteFor this one I sewed the binding to the back of the quilt and then flipped it around to sew it down from the front. :) It take a little bit of patience, but I found that with my walking foot and the needle moved all the way to the left I can get it pretty straight.
DeleteIt looks fab, and love it with the Cathrineholm bowls

ReplyDeleteBeautiful little set, I can see me making this soon :)
ReplyDeleteWhy do I love this?? Not my colors at all, but still it calls to me. I think my favorite is the sashing, simple... but the texture and color add an overall crispness to the table topper. Love it! Perfect choice of quilting design too!
