ISLAND blog tour and giveaway! [closed]

I’m super pumped to be included on the ISLAND blog tour today!!  Thanks so much to Jane and Shannon for having me!  I can’t believe that I finally learned how to knit and I can even follow a pattern (so far so good).  I was beyond thrilled to get a copy of the book ISLAND by Jane Richmond and designed by Shannon.

It’s a truly stunning book.  I’ve been drooling over Nikolos Kupiak‘s photography everyday since I got this little gem.  The layout of the book is perfection, I love how the projects are beautifully showcased in the front of the book and the hardworking instructions are at the back.  It’s a book I’ll be proudly leaving on my coffee table to show off.  Yes, it’s that cool!

Beyond that I’m just so impressed with this lovely collection of projects.  There are even projects that a newbie like me can complete and feel really proud about!  Someday I really hope to work my way up to cardigan status, but I’m having such a blast now with the  hat I made so far!

[my renfrew hat in Madelinetosh Vintage in Wicked]

I think I’d make her and I both a pair of fingerless gloves first, and I’d also love to learn how to knit an ‘animal hat’ for my niece, but that’s far and above my skill level for now πŸ˜‰

    Kirstyl on ravelry

  125. laputain says:

ooh, gorgeous! I love the look of that cardie. Cardie’s are what i’m working up to (and jumpers) because a)I really feel the cold and b)i am a medical student, soon (ish) to be doctor, and in the UK infection control policies dictate that we be ‘bare below the elbows’ in clinical areas. it’s really hard to buy cosy jumpers with midlength sleeves, so it seems to me that the obvious solution is to get better at knitting and make myself a wardrobe of sophisticated doctor-knits that won’t upset the microbiologists!

Next on the needles, however, is Dogwood (by tincanknits, find it on Ravelry) a baby blanket for one of my closest friends who is currently pregnant with her first. I am *assured* it is basically an easy project, but I am struggling a wee bit with the pinhole cast on at the beginning. Wish me luck!

  126. Ginny says:

Ah, I want to knit Grace from Jane Richmond’s book in the SweetGeorgia BFL sock – only in one of her new spring colourways. Sitka, or maybe Wisteria. I don’t have a lot of lilac pale purple in my wardrobe. πŸ™‚

  127. Jilly says:

The book looks fantastic. I’ve just finished a pair of socks and next up is a cowl. jillyharris(at)outlook(dot)com

  129. Susan Evans says:

I just started knitting again after 20 years! My goal is to make some hand warmers. I am starting out small with a cowl to get those knitting juices going. Loving it!

  130. Lynne Tilley says:

I’m just learning to knit, and I’m simply going to make a scarf. My sweet daughter in law is teaching me. If I win the book, I will probably give it to her because she would appreciate it so much, and is more advanced than I am at this point. Thanks for the chance!

lovly hat and book,i am starting a baby jumper with matching hat for my little grandson who is due in June, thankyou for such a lovely giveaway.xx

  134. Cyndi Haupt says:

Don’t be scared of the cardigan! It’s really not more difficult to make an easy cardigan than to make a hat — just more stitches. And you’ll learn along the way.

  135. Beach Angel says:

You are my absolute favorite blogger. I don’t knit but would love to learn.

  136. Pat says:

Your hat is stunning. My next project is a baby swearer.

  137. Joyce says:

The people I work with are all of the “new grandmother” age, myself included. One friend makes all the new babies a quilt, I knit them all hats. The book looks wonderful….and so does your hat!

  138. booboomac says:

I learned some knitting years ago and made a sweater for my then 3 year-old daughter. She is now 10 and I haven’t knitted since. I’d like to get back to it now that my kids are a little older. I love the hat you made! It’s so cute on you!

  139. Shelley says:

I haven’t knit anything but a couple of scarfs for years but that brown cardigan would get me started again – after I practiced on the cute hat!! Beautiful book. Thanks for the chance to win it. shelquilts (at) aol (dot) com

  140. shira says:

Thanks you so much, I love their work and would be so happy to try one of the designs in the book since I’ve never knitted Jane Richmond’s

    shirleshira(at)gmail(dot)com

  141. I just cast on my first cardi today: Pamela Wynne’s February Lady Sweater! Might be a reach for my abilities but I’ve knit hats and cowls out the wazoo so I’m ready for a challenge. Your hat looks lovely and that color of madtosh suits you to a tee. (You should SO try the sweater.)

  142. Anonymous says:

Pretty hat! I am working on a honey cowl, so that I can then make a hat, so that I can make a baby blanket πŸ™‚ I don’t have enough time to knit all that, but that’s alright. This looks like it would have some lovely things to add to my never ending list!

I just finished making the “Wiggle Scarf” using Kauni sportweight yarns. I really like the crayola effect. Since that took a while to make, I’m looking for a less time-consuming (smaller?) scarf project. edeloof@gmail.com

  152. Amy says:

That hat looks great! I just finished my aidez cardigan, and am itching to start another. I think I’ll take a break and make some fingerless gloves or a baby blanket though.

I would love to win this book, and knit the Grace cardigan

  154. KAM says:

OOOH, looks like a fabulous book! and I love the hat. Right now I am beading the fringe of a long, beautiful knitted scarf for my daughter, doing the last rows of a great mobius scarf for that same daughter…and my granddaughter always seems to be able to get some wearing time with projects I make for her mom. Then there is the new pair of socks for me, lovely wool in a cable pattern that are now below the ribbing with the pattern developing nicely…and another pair of socks with just the toes to finish and bind off. Knitting is a passion for me and Montana winters give me lots of home time for creating many items. Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity. Kristin

Yay! A giveaway open to Canadians πŸ˜‰

I’m a novice knitter – I’ve been doing it forever, but have developed very little skill. A couple of years ago, everybody got scarves and cowls for Christmas and I even tried a few hats. I’d love to make a Honey Cowl or a knitted hedgehog!

  156. Traceyg says:

It is a beautiful book and I would love to have it in my library. After I finish the Garter Rib Baby Blanket I’m knitting for my baby, the next project on my list is another Marian Cowl (one of Jane’s patterns). These are my “birthday gifts” of choice for this year. Quick and easy to knit and look fantastic.

  157. Angie says:

Very pretty book! I’ve just been knitting socks lately because it’s cold out and my old ones keep getting holes.

  162. Your beanie looks great and the book looks even better! I am having a break from quilting – I wore myself out over Christmas (lol) and have LITERALLY just returned home from a 100km round trip to get some yarn..I have a vest in mind… and I now have some lovely Zara to make it with.. my next mission (after my vest) is a cardigan… The one pictured above may well be amongst my Fav’s added on Rav!!

Great job on the hat, I would have never known you were a newbie. The book is lovely, there is a cowl in it that I especially like. Next in my queue is a Sea Princess sweater for my daughter and a Featherweight cardigan for me.

  165. Poppyprint says:

Look at you go, knitting hats! Woohoo! I don’t knit. I rely on my personal knitter: my Mom. She’s awesome and has only given up on one super hard (unbeknownst to me) pattern I bought on ravelry to knit for me. I would happily gift her this book (with a list of all the things she could knit for me clearly tagged).

  166. rosewendy says:

I have been thinking a lot lately of the gloves my grandmother used to make. She was a whizz at gloves and socks and made it look so easy. It’s about time I had a go I think.

Gorgeous! I still haven’t finished my first knitting project, but I think that’s probably because I decided to knit a striped twin-sized blanket… Guess that’s just what happened when a quilter designs her own knitting project rather than getting an awesome book like THIS for inspiration πŸ˜‰

    Thanks for the chance!

Your hat looks really great. How did I not hear about this book tour? My only sweater that I made is by Jane Richmond, and I love it. My next knitting project will be to complete the February Baby Sweater by Elizabeth Zimmerman, but I would love to be distracted by this book!

Congrats on learning how to knit. I myself just learned how knit and just got my first sewing machine for Christmas. I have two projects which I am trying to get up the courage to do. 205. Collette says:

Oh, I’ve been eyeing this on Ravelry. I really like her patterns.

I’m currently in the middle of a hat knitting spree. I typically don’t knit for other people if they know about it because then I think all they think of when they see me is WHERE’S MY STUFF??? But I have a queue of 3 hats for other people. Not sure how I got here but there it is!

  206. anotheryarn says:

Oh, my queue is so messed, things keep jumping queue, long-standing WIP keep getting back-burnered… But next up (I’ve said who knows how many times) is my Feather Lace Shawl.

The hat looks great, and I think if you want that cardigan you should dive in and make it! Often the hardest part of a cardigan is making sure it fits, a nice big gauge swatch helps with that.
