I'm super pumped to be included on the ISLAND blog tour today!! Thanks so much to Jane and Shannon for having me! I can't believe that I finally learned how to knit and I can even follow a pattern (so far so good). I was beyond thrilled to get a copy of the book ISLAND by Jane Richmond and designed by Shannon.
It's a truly stunning book. I've been drooling over Nikolos Kupiak's photography everyday since I got this little gem. The layout of the book is perfection, I love how the projects are beautifully showcased in the front of the book and the hardworking instructions are at the back. It's a book I'll be proudly leaving on my coffee table to show off. Yes, it's that cool!
Beyond that I'm just so impressed with this lovely collection of projects. There are even projects that a newbie like me can complete and feel really proud about! Someday I really hope to work my way up to cardigan status, but I'm having such a blast now with the hat I made so far!

ooh, gorgeous! I love the look of that cardie. Cardie's are what i'm working up to (and jumpers) because a)I really feel the cold and b)i am a medical student, soon (ish) to be doctor, and in the UK infection control policies dictate that we be 'bare below the elbows' in clinical areas. it's really hard to buy cosy jumpers with midlength sleeves, so it seems to me that the obvious solution is to get better at knitting and make myself a wardrobe of sophisticated doctor-knits that won't upset the microbiologists!
ReplyDeleteNext on the needles, however, is Dogwood (by tincanknits, find it on Ravelry) a baby blanket for one of my closest friends who is currently pregnant with her first. I am *assured* it is basically an easy project, but I am struggling a wee bit with the pinhole cast on at the beginning. Wish me luck!
Ah, I want to knit Grace from Jane Richmond's book in the SweetGeorgia BFL sock - only in one of her new spring colourways. Sitka, or maybe Wisteria. I don't have a lot of lilac pale purple in my wardrobe. :)

ReplyDeleteDon't be scared of the cardigan! It's really not more difficult to make an easy cardigan than to make a hat -- just more stitches. And you'll learn along the way.

ReplyDeleteThe people I work with are all of the "new grandmother" age, myself included. One friend makes all the new babies a quilt, I knit them all hats. The book looks wonderful....and so does your hat!

I just cast on my first cardi today: Pamela Wynne's February Lady Sweater! Might be a reach for my abilities but I've knit hats and cowls out the wazoo so I'm ready for a challenge. Your hat looks lovely and that color of madtosh suits you to a tee. (You should SO try the sweater.)

Pretty hat! I am working on a honey cowl, so that I can then make a hat, so that I can make a baby blanket :) I don't have enough time to knit all that, but that's alright. This looks like it would have some lovely things to add to my never ending list!

Right now I am beading the fringe of a long, beautiful knitted scarf for my daughter, doing the last rows of a great mobius scarf for that same daughter...and my granddaughter always seems to be able to get some wearing time with projects I make for her mom. Then there is the new pair of socks for me, lovely wool in a cable pattern that are now below the ribbing with the pattern developing nicely...and another pair of socks with just the toes to finish and bind off. Knitting is a passion for me and Montana winters give me lots of home time for creating many items. Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity. Kristin

ReplyDeleteI'm a novice knitter - I've been doing it forever, but have developed very little skill. A couple of years ago, everybody got scarves and cowls for Christmas and I even tried a few hats. I'd love to make a Honey Cowl or a knitted hedgehog!
It is a beautiful book and I would love to have it in my library. After I finish the Garter Rib Baby Blanket I'm knitting for my baby, the next project on my list is another Marian Cowl (one of Jane's patterns). These are my "birthday gifts" of choice for this year. Quick and easy to knit and look fantastic.

I am having a break from quilting - I wore myself out over Christmas (lol) and have LITERALLY just returned home from a 100km round trip to get some yarn..I have a vest in mind... and I now have some lovely Zara to make it with.. my next mission (after my vest) is a cardigan... The one pictured above may well be amongst my Fav's added on Rav!!

She's awesome and has only given up on one super hard (unbeknownst to me) pattern I bought on ravelry to knit for me. I would happily gift her this book (with a list of all the things she could knit for me clearly tagged).

Gorgeous! I still haven't finished my first knitting project, but I think that's probably because I decided to knit a striped twin-sized blanket... Guess that's just what happened when a quilter designs her own knitting project rather than getting an awesome book like THIS for inspiration ;)
