I'm super pumped to be included on the ISLAND blog tour today!! Thanks so much to Jane and Shannon for having me! I can't believe that I finally learned how to knit and I can even follow a pattern (so far so good). I was beyond thrilled to get a copy of the book ISLAND by Jane Richmond and designed by Shannon.
It's a truly stunning book. I've been drooling over Nikolos Kupiak's photography everyday since I got this little gem. The layout of the book is perfection, I love how the projects are beautifully showcased in the front of the book and the hardworking instructions are at the back. It's a book I'll be proudly leaving on my coffee table to show off. Yes, it's that cool!
Beyond that I'm just so impressed with this lovely collection of projects. There are even projects that a newbie like me can complete and feel really proud about! Someday I really hope to work my way up to cardigan status, but I'm having such a blast now with the hat I made so far!

ReplyDeleteyay! I'm working on a cowl/shrug in brioche stitch which is giving me a hard time... would love to win this book!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful book. I am starting a sweater for my niece. Should be interesting, since all I have made so far are scarves!
ReplyDeleteOoh, what a neat looking book! Right now I have a fingerless glove on one set of needles, a sweater on another and a pair of socks on another. Nothing like trying to multi-task!
ReplyDeletelisaandmariahcreations@gmail.com
Let's just START to knit... that would be my 'next' knitting project! I'm in for this give-away. nowelja[at]gmail[dot]com
ReplyDeleteFirst of all you look so cute in that hat! I'd love this book, my sister is planning to teach me to knit in March, and I cannot wait! I think I'd make her and I both a pair of fingerless gloves first, and I'd also love to learn how to knit an 'animal hat' for my niece, but that's far and above my skill level for now ;)
ReplyDeleteits gorgeous anna!
ReplyDeletei have a cowl i've seemingly been knitting forever. i think i'm the slowest knitter out there, but i do love it so!

I'm finishing my first pair of socks and plan to knit "Nova" for my daughter next. That could easily change if I get this book...as I love the "Grace" cardigan. Thanks for the opportunity!

I'm making a scarf next....still haven't graduated from scarf and cowl making but a book like this would definitely help me make the leap!

ReplyDeleteI think this book looks amazing! I first saw it on the Single Handed Knits podcast (video) and ironically it is a pattern from the same podcaster that is next in my queue - a mystery knit-a-long for a sweater! ( : It is a pullover, raglan sweater style, but that is all we know at this point.... Thanks for the chance to win!!! Stephanie (indigodogmt on Ravelry)

At the moment I'm knitting a shawl (which is what I knit most) called Ananke in 2 colors of Madeline Tosh cashmere (I splurged). Think the next is going to be Piper's Journey, another shawl and I'll be doing that with Malabrigo DK.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely giveaway!
Knitting a sweater is actually one of my New Years Resolutions this year! I"m still debating over the pattern though, and seeing that one in Island Knitting may delay me further... :) piratesrock[at]gmail[dot]com
ReplyDeleteI'm actually trying my hand at a lace shawl. It's slow going but I'm learning a lot, most especially, how to "read" my knitting and not have to keep frogging back a row or two or three.....
ReplyDeleteThe sweater you showed looks divine. Must put that on my "to do" list.
Great job on the hat! My knitting friend has a birthday in April. This might be a good idea for her!
ReplyDeleteA cowl, now a hat, nice work! I say go for the cardigan- if you can make that adorable little hat, I'm sure you'll find the cardigan a breeze :)
ReplyDeleteI've wanted to try a Jane Richmond pattern for years now- I would LOVE to win her book! Thanks for the chance ;)
The hat and cowl are beautiful! I am currently working on a pair of socks. Hopefully, you'll give those a whirl soon. If you're a bit nervous, I"d suggest http://www.cometosilver.com/socks/index.htm for a great tutorial.

ReplyDeleteaeamcclintock@gmail.com
I want a copy!!!!! I'm hoping to start a jumper for my niece who lives in the other pole. Will start to be cold very soon down there.
ReplyDeleteNext in my queue is a birthday pair of socks, but the Grace cardi would go right to the top of my list if I won this book!
ReplyDeleteWoohoooo, it's open to international entries!!! : )
ReplyDeleteI'm traveling the other direction: from knitting to sewing! As for knitting, I'm in the middle of a Vitamin D cardigan and about to finish my second mitten. And a lot of serious sewing is awaiting me: I've got everything (but time and a little courage!) to start on a washi dress, then move on to a Sureau dress, designed by a French seamstress, check it out, her patterns are brilliant: http://www.deer-and-doe.fr/ the Sureau dress is the first on the left on that page.
Would love to see, feel and try out that book!! I love Jane Richmond's patterns!
jojolie-fleur@wanadoo.fr
What a cute hat! This book looks awesome. I currently have too many projects on the go (baby blanket that turned into a full sized blanket, infant cardigan, some fingerless gloves...), but I always like to start a new one anyway!

I just finished knitting up the Arbutus cowl that is in this book. I purchased this pattern on Jane's Etsy page. Would love to win this book and try some of the rest of her patterns, as this Arbutus pattern was very easy to follow. Thanks for a crack at winning it!
ReplyDeleteI know what my next project should be--unraveling the garter stitch cuffs on the Tiny Tea Leaves cardigan finished for my daughter two months ago so I can add the extra inch of length that it really needs. That, and several items that need only their ends woven in. Must stay strong...otherwise a baby dress is next.
ReplyDeleteLove the hat, very cute. Right now I am knitting the Still Light Tunic. This book looks lovely! lorie(at)yahoo(dot)com

ooh, gorgeous! I love the look of that cardie. Cardie's are what i'm working up to (and jumpers) because a)I really feel the cold and b)i am a medical student, soon (ish) to be doctor, and in the UK infection control policies dictate that we be 'bare below the elbows' in clinical areas. it's really hard to buy cosy jumpers with midlength sleeves, so it seems to me that the obvious solution is to get better at knitting and make myself a wardrobe of sophisticated doctor-knits that won't upset the microbiologists!
ReplyDeleteNext on the needles, however, is Dogwood (by tincanknits, find it on Ravelry) a baby blanket for one of my closest friends who is currently pregnant with her first. I am *assured* it is basically an easy project, but I am struggling a wee bit with the pinhole cast on at the beginning. Wish me luck!
Ah, I want to knit Grace from Jane Richmond's book in the SweetGeorgia BFL sock - only in one of her new spring colourways. Sitka, or maybe Wisteria. I don't have a lot of lilac pale purple in my wardrobe. :)
ReplyDeleteThe book looks fantastic. I've just finished a pair of socks and next up is a cowl. jillyharris(at)outlook(dot)com
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm new to knitting this winter, so this book would be really inspiring! I would be so happy to make a hat just like yours!!
ReplyDeleteI just started knitting again after 20 years! My goal is to make some hand warmers. I am starting out small with a cowl to get those knitting juices going. Loving it!
ReplyDeleteI'm just learning to knit, and I'm simply going to make a scarf. My sweet daughter in law is teaching me. If I win the book, I will probably give it to her because she would appreciate it so much, and is more advanced than I am at this point. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking I might knit Loxley and a hat, I have some fun hand painted sock yarn that I'm dying to use soon!
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely book. I'd love to add a copy to my little library. Next up for me is my first knit sweater. Excited and nervous... (Ravelry = Zaelia-Blue)
ReplyDeletelovly hat and book,i am starting a baby jumper with matching hat for my little grandson who is due in June, thankyou for such a lovely giveaway.xx
ReplyDeleteDon't be scared of the cardigan! It's really not more difficult to make an easy cardigan than to make a hat -- just more stitches. And you'll learn along the way.
ReplyDeleteYou are my absolute favorite blogger. I don't knit but would love to learn.
ReplyDeleteYour hat is stunning. My next project is a baby swearer.
ReplyDeleteThe people I work with are all of the "new grandmother" age, myself included. One friend makes all the new babies a quilt, I knit them all hats. The book looks wonderful....and so does your hat!
ReplyDeleteI learned some knitting years ago and made a sweater for my then 3 year-old daughter. She is now 10 and I haven't knitted since. I'd like to get back to it now that my kids are a little older. I love the hat you made! It's so cute on you!
ReplyDeleteI haven't knit anything but a couple of scarfs for years but that brown cardigan would get me started again - after I practiced on the cute hat!! Beautiful book. Thanks for the chance to win it. shelquilts (at) aol (dot) com
ReplyDeleteThanks you so much, I love their work and would be so happy to try one of the designs in the book since I've never knitted Jane Richmond's

ReplyDeleteOOOH, looks like a fabulous book! and I love the hat. Right now I am beading the fringe of a long, beautiful knitted scarf for my daughter, doing the last rows of a great mobius scarf for that same daughter...and my granddaughter always seems to be able to get some wearing time with projects I make for her mom. Then there is the new pair of socks for me, lovely wool in a cable pattern that are now below the ribbing with the pattern developing nicely...and another pair of socks with just the toes to finish and bind off. Knitting is a passion for me and Montana winters give me lots of home time for creating many items. Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity. Kristin

Yay! A giveaway open to Canadians ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm a novice knitter - I've been doing it forever, but have developed very little skill. A couple of years ago, everybody got scarves and cowls for Christmas and I even tried a few hats. I'd love to make a Honey Cowl or a knitted hedgehog!
It is a beautiful book and I would love to have it in my library. After I finish the Garter Rib Baby Blanket I'm knitting for my baby, the next project on my list is another Marian Cowl (one of Jane's patterns). These are my "birthday gifts" of choice for this year. Quick and easy to knit and look fantastic.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty book! I've just been knitting socks lately because it's cold out and my old ones keep getting holes.
ReplyDeleteI plan to knit headband with cute bow:) thanks for chance!

Thanks so much for the chance to win this book. And signed yet!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I don't knit much myself, but I have many friends who do and this would be a lovely gift for them. I am currently crocheting a baby gift, though. It's a tiny blanket with the edges crocheted into a robot. ~Kelly, wyndsung@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteYour beanie looks great and the book looks even better! I am having a break from quilting - I wore myself out over Christmas (lol) and have LITERALLY just returned home from a 100km round trip to get some yarn..I have a vest in mind... and I now have some lovely Zara to make it with.. my next mission (after my vest) is a cardigan... The one pictured above may well be amongst my Fav's added on Rav!!
ReplyDeletelove it. So excited to get back to knitting for a while.. I love it as the days darken sooner.. the fires get lit and the knitting begins!!
Fingers crossed I get picked... after today I am on a craft supplies (self imposed) ban.. must work on the ones I have on the go!!
All the best Sal. us_salad[at]yahoo[dot]com.au
Am excited to check out this book. You had asked what is next in our queues. For me it is Gavotte by Cecily Glowik MacDonald
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the hat, I would have never known you were a newbie. The book is lovely, there is a cowl in it that I especially like. Next in my queue is a Sea Princess sweater for my daughter and a Featherweight cardigan for me.
ReplyDeleteLook at you go, knitting hats! Woohoo! I don't knit. I rely on my personal knitter: my Mom. She's awesome and has only given up on one super hard (unbeknownst to me) pattern I bought on ravelry to knit for me. I would happily gift her this book (with a list of all the things she could knit for me clearly tagged).
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking a lot lately of the gloves my grandmother used to make. She was a whizz at gloves and socks and made it look so easy. It's about time I had a go I think.
ReplyDeleteoh, that looks like something else to add to my Christmas wish list! And I love your hat.
ReplyDeleteciao! questo libro deve essere bellissimo! I modelli delle prime foto mi sembrano così..... dolci come cupcakes al cioccolato!! Sono così curiosa per gli altri! Ti auguro una buona giornata
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great book. I am into scarves and cowls as many other knitted items do not work well in the African heat. Although, a hat is something I really need when I visit Europe next month. . .
ReplyDeleteWhat not to love in this collection??? I would cast on immediately an Arbutus and I think I have already cast on a Grace (in my imagination...)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great book, thanks for the change to win! I have been more into crochet lately , this seems like a good moment to start knitting again. It's still cold here in The Netherlands, I can use another scarf :-)
ReplyDeleteMy knitted socks just had to go (the whole was too big) and I will have to knit some new ones, nothing beats warm feet!
ReplyDeleteI've been knitting about 7 months now and love it! I have a small group that meets weekly at my house and I'd love to share this awesome book with my knitting friends. I am just starting to read patterns so what a beautiful teaching tool this book will be :-)

Gorgeous! I still haven't finished my first knitting project, but I think that's probably because I decided to knit a striped twin-sized blanket... Guess that's just what happened when a quilter designs her own knitting project rather than getting an awesome book like THIS for inspiration ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance!
I have some beautiful blue bulky yarn begging to become a snugly cowl! Thanks for the giveaway and great job on the hat! Amy @ gasudimack(at)sbcglobal(dot)net
ReplyDeleteLOVE the hat! I need to finish some fingerless gloves that I started a while ago. Thanks for the giveaway. Looks like a fabulous book!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely book and thank you for the giveaway. I would love to knit the hat and see what else is in the book.
ReplyDeleteWhat a awesome book! I would love to make a hat like that! I'm in the middle of making a pair of socks and crocheting a blanket! I'm just trying to make time to finish them with two little ones! :-)
ReplyDeleteNice book! I want to knit one of those gorgeous sweaters. adams(dot)brenna(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI'm so ready to finish my February Lady Sweater (on ravelry) and up next is a Gaptastic Cowl for my sister who loves mine. But first I gotta finish the sweater...
ReplyDeleteLove this book so much! When I started knitting again Jane's Autumn hat pattern was one of the first I tried. Right now I'm knitting my fourth honey cowl (short one for Alex) in Madelinetosh Vintage in Mare and I'm thinking I might knit another cardigan for myself next up!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, my next knitting project is currently unknown. :) Probably a hat or a neckwarmer. Thanks for the chance to win! annesaprons@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteLove the hat! Love the book!

Oh, i just love the refrew hat. one of these days I'll cave and purchase the pattern. I'd love to win the whole collection before then though :)
ReplyDeleteI think you have my orange coat! I love that hat with it!!! Beautiful pictures and I would love to win a copy, but am not allowing myself to buy one right now since I am still working on my O W L S sweater from last summer's knit along. Sigh, having to stop and learn bust darts and short rows headed into Christmas making season did me in... Love the beautiful inspiration, though. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI just finished a blanket for my son and I am working on a vest for myself. next on my needles will be a cardigan. i would love to win this book so it could be a sweater from it.
ReplyDeleteBeautifull book! I am beginner in knitting, in the moment I am working on a vest for my daughter, but it seems I haven't enought yarn, so I need order more. Greeting from Slovakia. zuzanaster@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful. I think some fingerless mitts might be my next project.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful book. I'd love to win. My next projects are little sweaters for my Blythe dolls. Then some mitts and a scarf. :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a beautiful book. I love good photography in a book like this. I do not knit, but my daughter is a great and prolific knitter. I would give this book to her. She knits socks for me in exchange for sewing projects.
ReplyDeleteI've just started knitting!!! Perhaps a bit advanced for now, but I'll work up to it. Everything looks so beautiful!
