I think the craziest thing I do with fabric scraps is store them away thinking that I’ll definitely use them one day! I recently gave a way a big bag of dressmaking scraps as I realised I wasn’t going to use them and I’m trying to use my quilting scraps rather than storing them indefinitely! Thanks for the give away!

  2. Unknown says:

I would like to have this lovely book. Thanks for the giveaway.

  3. I have to admit….I just thru away a bunch of scraps ( I have three different bins FULL). I was one of the hardest things I have done in a long time, LOL. But it was full of very old material, and I just needed to declutter! Thank yo for this give away!

  4. Gail says:

I hadn’t heard of this book, but the subtitle caught my eye. I’d LOVE to find a great use for my scraps!

I think the craziest thing I’ve done with them so far is to cut them into tiny (1/4″) bits and use them as stuffing for the tailor’s ham I made. Boy, was that tedious!

  5. Della Marie says:

For christmas gifts last year I made gifts to save some money, I used fabric scraps to try to save even more money! I made some fabric scraps stationary…I really just sewed little squares of fabric scraps onto the front of some cards, added envelopes and tied them up nicely. It was fun to be able to do something with some of my very favorite fabric scraps. I also wrapped gifts in the brown craft paper and made ribbons out of fabric scraps to fancy up the brown packages instead of buying expensive paper.

  6. Erin says:

Most of my scraps are just sitting in a box, just waiting to be used….

  7. gpc says:

What a lovely book. I am working on small scrappy blocks, just helter skelter joined scraps as I work on each project. I don’t have nearly enough yet to make anything, but they will represent pretty much everything I’ve worked on for the past few years and I am looking forward to making a quilted throw with them when I can.

  8. Thank you for the opportunity! I have looked at this book and it has so many wonderful patterns. I don’t know that it is crazy (eye of the beholder right?) but I am make “found fabric from my bits. It is mindless and I love being able to put them to some fun great use.

  9. Last summer I made a quilt out of my Bonnie and
Camille fabric. Thanks for the giveaway!

  10. Megan says:

Every project I make ends up with scraps in it because I never buy enough fabric! Thanks for the giveaway!

  17. I used everyone’s (mom, grandma, friends) scraps to make a crazy quilt. The one my great grandmother made for my mom upon graduation has long been my favorite so I had to try and recreate the quilt. Thanks for the great giveaway! emmonsje(at)msu(dot)edu

  18. Erin A says:

I’m about to turn some scrappy bits of gray linen into Easter basket grass. Why keep that nasty plastic stuff around when I can use a soft pretty alternative? Thanks for a great giveaway!!

  20. knottygnome says:

i think the craziest thing i’ve done with my scraps is to use them as stuffing in a knitted monster toy. thanks for the giveaway!

  21. Scraps? I don’t really have scraps. The tiny pieces go to my my sisters MQG where someone uses them for dog beds for shelters. Anything else gets used.
Thanks for the giveaway! I gave my sister this book but don’t have one for myself.

    Kari (dot)stewart (at)me (dot)com

  22. M. says:

I’m making a scrappy quilt right now. I’m scared that all the different fabrics won’t look “right” together, but I’m going forward anyhow!

  23. Cary says:

I’m not so sure it was crazy — maybe ingenious! But… one Easter I was creating an Easter bowl with eggs and needed “grass”. Not finding any in the house I cut strips of felt scraps I had and came up with a beautiful, colorful, new kind of Easter basket grass! See it here — http://creativemomentsbycary.blogspot.com/2012/04/felt-easter-grass-and-chocolate-eggs.html. Thanks for the wonderful book offer!

  24. I made a rainbow log cabin quilt last year. Not really crazy but it sure was fun!

I already own this book. I’ve made two quilts from it and right now my 7 year old is making the ticker tape quilt from it. If I won, I’d send it to my sister who just got her first sewing machine for Christmas. Now she is hooked too!

  25. The Buchans says:

The craziest thing I did with some scraps was give them away!!!! I was being overwhelmed by them and then of course I regretted it as soon as I did it. Good thing it hasn’t taken me long to get my collection back.

  26. Susan says:

I love that book–it’s been on my wish list for a while now.

  27. Jessica says:

    Wow! What an amazing book!

  28. Michele says:

I hate to admit it…I haven’t done anything crazy with my fabric scraps. I guess I’m kinda boring!

  29. Courtneysews says:

I’d love to win this great book! Craziest thing I’ve done with scraps…make teeny tiny clothes for clothespin dolls…not so crazy after all. Thanks!

  30. angelina says:

    love that fabric!
    imisswaylon@hotmail.com
    angela 🙂

  31. Allison C says:

Does organizing them count as crazy? In my book it does…it usually takes me a LONG time to get to organizing them so when I’m actually in the mood to do it I consider myself a little “crazy”.

  32. Monica says:

I’ve separated my scraps in bags by color….just waiting for the perfect simple quilt! I love this book (got it from the library) – so many great ideas!

  33. Jana says:

I’m trying to use more of my scraps now. I have enough fabric for several lifetimes! Thanks for the giveaway!

  34. Kristie says:

Nothing really, but I do remember my mom letting us use her scraps when I was little. And now letting my 6 year old use my scraps for her creative inventions. A couple of weeks ago she sewed a necklace. It was pretty creative, but the smile on her face when she finished was awesome.

  35. Erin says:

I let my daughters play with my scraps and sometimes it gets a little messy in my sewing room!
    Thanks,
    Erin
    Emstone28@gmail.com

  36. I’ve been hoping to get my hands on a copy of this book, but purchasing isn’t in the budget right now! I wish I had a good story about my scraps, but it seems like the pile just keeps growing and needs some serious management.

  37. I JUST checked this out from the library and would love to win a copy as opposed to scanning my favorite patterns to my computer 🙂 Craziest thing… hmmm… well, it isn’t crazy really, but my daughter LOVES my scraps makes her own “quilts” with them 🙂

  38. Marisa says:

Thanks for the opportunity! I love this book-I’ve gotten it out from the library a couple of times but haven’t tackled any of the projects. With my scraps, I have about 1/2 of a block done of lazy gal quilting’s Lego quilt. Only 99.99% to go!

  39. JoNell says:

I made a queen size quilt from randomly made blocks. Many pieces incorporated in the blocks were 1/2-1 inch. Crazy, yes. Thank you for the chance to win.

  40. I’ve been working on making little fabric easter eggs out of my scraps this year. So much fun!
But I have plenty of other scraps, exploding out of their storage box…

Thanks for the chance to win.

    emily[dot]camfield[at]gmail[dot]com

  41. Sarah says:

Thanks for the chance to win! I made a drawstring bag to hold some of my kids lacing cards with my scraps, although that probably doesn’t qualify as crazy! Email is in my profile! 🙂

  44. Kassia says:

    Lovely giveaway!! 🙂

  45. Shelly says:

I really only call it a scrap if its scrappy binding size, otherwise its usable for applique or art quilts or paper piecing or lots of other things. Thanks for the chance to win.

  46. Liz says:

I’m saving up all my scraps for a nice quilt…I bet Sunday Morning Quilts would provide much inspiration!

  47. Brenna says:

I throw all my scraps in a giant tote, and hope that someday I’ll have the courage to make a scrappy quilt.

  48. I checked this book out from the library, but it was great. I would love to have a copy of my own! I can’t say I’ve really done anything “crazy” with my scraps, but I need to get crazy in using some of them. My current scrap storage is nearly full!

    em_komiskey at yahoo dot com

  49. Judy V says:

I guess making a crazy quilt is the craziest I have gotten with my scraps. It is fun to see how they come together. Thanks for the giveaway.

  50. Elsa says:

I’ve got lots of scraps ~ maybe the craziest thing I’ve done with scraps is to buy some. At the end of the year my LFS sells grab bags of scraps that are left over from bolts. There’s usually lots of fabric scraps that I don’t have and I’ve got to have them! teehee
Thanks for the giveaway ~ this book has been on my wish list for a while now ~ would be lovely to win!

  54. becke says:

I am new to quilting and would love to add this to my “stash”…thank you

  55. claudia says:

Right now the craziest thing I am doing is as I get the scrapes, I iron them with starch and lay them flat in a box. When I get enough of them, I am going to make a really scrapy quilt. Like just start sewing the scrapes until I have big enough blocks, square up the blocks and sew those together. Should be a pretty busy quilt in color and in my sewing!
momacita22 [at} yahoo [dot] com Thanks for the chance to win the book!

  56. sookhyun says:

The craziest thing I did with scraps is make a bunny chew toy out of them. It’s basically strips of fabric cut into short pieces and held together in the center by a string. The bunny loves munching on it so I will definitely make more!
    susan.h.hwang @ gmail . com

  57. liz c says:

I use my tiny scrap pieces for stuffing plush toys for my son and his friends, there are some fabrics I just can’t bear to throw away no matter how small and useless the scrap is!

  58. Penny says:

I’ve never done anything crazy with fabric scraps, but I did just use a button and some necklace chain on my latest quilt.

  59. Phyllis says:

I am just beginning the quilting journey, so don’t have many scraps yet.
    Thanks for the giveaway!
    gailxs at Hotmail.com

  60. Megan says:

I’m not very good at using my scraps… I recently just made a tote bag and used some up, but this book would be so helpful in giving me ideas for my scraps! Thanks for the chance to win a copy! mbauer.arts[at]gmail[dot]com

  61. I’m still fairly new to sewing/quilting (quilting about a year or so and only for a couple months on a fully functional machine), so I haven’t done too much with my scraps, but I do love the look of scrappy quilts and if I’m going to spend that much money on fabric, I am darn well going to use every bit! 🙂

So, I’m making some of those lovely x plus blocks when I have big enough scraps. Eventually I’ll have enough for a quilt – I’m up to about 4 or 5 now. I also just made an envelope closure pillow cover for a pillow on my couch using selvages, scraps, and stash fabric. Not crazy really, but cute and useful and saving scrap from garbage!

  62. Jo Ann says:

I sort my scraps by color and also into pieces and string are separated. I have mad a large quilt similar to a scrap vomit quilt. I love it, but hubs calls it the ugly quilt! Thanks for the chance!

  63. Lena says:

I used all of the scraps from my 4 granddaughters quilts and 6 great grand baby’s quilt made
My daughter a queen quilt for her bed.
crazy because some of the scraps were so small.
would love to win this book.
    Lena75042@yahoo.com

  64. I’m about 1/2 way through my 1st quilt, but I’ve been saving up my scraps to make a rag rug to match it. Sometimes I’ll toss one to the cat to play with though. He seems to like it. 😉

    moyler316[at]yahoo[dot]com

  65. babiesdoc says:

    not crazy but, dumb.
I was overwhelmed trying to organize my sewing room and just threw away a large box of scraps.
I feel the pain every time I look for a “little piece”
    thanks for the giveaway

  66. Christina says:

Sad to say I haven’t really done much! I save them all, but really haven’t had the guts to do anything yet! This book looks beautiful!

  67. chez barton says:

Just found your blog and ordered that great split basket pattern that Dear Stella highlighted. Would love to win autographed book. Kellee20@yahoo.com I think craziest with fabric is impromptu with the five youngest grandchildren, playing dress-up with just pieces of fabric, scarves and belts is super fun for 2-5 year olds!

  68. Mostly I think I just save too many scraps — so many that I never have time to work with all of them! Thanks so much for the giveaway!

  69. Thanks for a chance to win!! I think the craziest thing I do with my scraps is save all of them! Forever!!! lol

  70. Kathie says:

If I don’t win this book I may just have to buy it!!

  71. Tammy says:

I don’t tend to do crazy things with them – I have cut 1-inch squares to piece and make hotpads before, I guess that’s kind of crazy! 🙂

  72. Celestial says:

That Gumdrop quilt is awesome! I have yet to make a quilt and really want to. Craziest thing I’ve done with my scraps? Probably hording them and not letting them go despite a move which resulted in getting rid of 2/3 of our stuff.

  73. L says:

I’m currently using them to completely improv piece a baby quilt.

  74. Jill says:

I have an exposed pipe running the length of my bedroom so I made a cozy for it. I like it much better now.

  75. Katya says:

I’ve been using my scraps for english paper piecing. a 2″ square makes a 3/4″ hexagon. Someday I hope to make a quilt out of about a thousand of those little hexagons. My great-great-grandmother made the most gorgeous quilt I have ever seen out of english paper piecing diamonds, and I want to follow her lead. My email is the.real.mccoy.jr@gmail.com

  76. Amanda S. says:

Thanks for the giveaway. I used my scraps as cat toys. Our cat loved to play with them while I was doing whatever. Now that she died I just throw them away.

  77. stephigordon says:

I haven’t done a ton of sewing – making twirly skirts for my daughter and a patchwork bag for her were about my craziest things. I am, however, really interested in sewing more and have the dream of making a quilt someday. My cousin owns a quilt shop so I would have some support. Thanks for the chance to win this beautiful book! Stephanie

  78. Amber says:

    Hi,
Thanks for asking this question as I just spent last night sorting out my scraps trying to get inspired to make something with them. I love reading everyone’s ideas.

I’m relatively new at quilting, so I don’t have a massive hoard of scraps-yet. So far, with fabric scraps, I’ve made a few mini quilts with tiny squares as gifts. This book would be a great inspiration for more gift ideas 🙂

    Thank you!
    -Jacqueline

  93. the mrs says:

I don’t have enough scraps yet, but I’m dying to make a scrappy quilt. They are always the most colorful. I do give some of my scraps to my daughter who likes to make clothes for her dolls and bears.

  94. Jodi says:

that looks like wonderful Liberty fabric. Craziest thing I do with my scraps is cut them into 1 1/2″ squares and make four patches, which I then sew into larger blocks of some sort which will make a quilt some day.

  95. Donna says:

I just started making scrappy trip around the world blocks. I have fabrics from so many projects that don’t coordinate at all, but the craziness of it is starting to grow on me. I love Amanda Jean’s blog, I’ve made quilts from a couple of her tutorials, and I’d love to own this book. Thanks for the chance to win.

  96. Shar says:

I have sewn my scraps into 600 spool blocks. I had scraps for the spools and scraps or the background. I was surprised at how long it took me to cut it all then sew them. But what a quilt it was when it was done.

  97. angela says:

Before she passed away, my husband’s grandmother give me some of her fabric scraps. The prettiest was sack cloth with blueberries on it. Years after her passing I used pieces of that sack cloth to make an apron for her daughter…my Mother-in-law. As soon as she saw that fabric she knew it was from her mother’s kitchen. I thought it fitting that it should be in the kitchen again…and what sweet memories we remember.

  98. Katie B says:

I think the craziest thing I do with my scraps is shove them in a 5-gallon tub instead of organizing them in any way! 🙂

  99. I use my scraps to appliqué shirts for my little man! Thanks for the giveaway!

  101. Ann S. says:

My scraps from one quilt have been used in 4 small quilts, so far. My sister and I have been doing some fun sew alongs we’ve found online and I am determined to not buy any fabric to do them. We live in different states so we share as we go along with texts and pictures. It is so much fun. We have really connected doing this.

  102. JuneBug says:

This book has been on my buy list for some time… Craziest thing I’ve done with scraps, is to throw them away! Eeek… but you know, when the urge to declutter strikes, there is not much to be done 🙂

  103. allierae says:

I tend to hoard my scraps because obviously I will one day NEED each and every tiny little piece!

  104. Oraxia says:

When I was a kid my mother was afraid to let me learn how to sew because, as a clumsy child, she was sure I’d stick myself real good and need to go to the hospital or something. Naturally, this only increased my interest and at some point I managed to abscond with a needle, a spool of thread, and some fabric scraps, and went on to make a pincushion from the scraps, stuffed with the scraps of the scraps and some cotton balls filched from the bathroom 😛 That’s probably the craziest I’ve done so far, but now I keep nearly all of my scraps, from both sewing and knitting, so I’m sure new adventures await them!

    oraxia [at] gmail DOT com

  105. I donated a ton & sold a huge bag for $20 when we moved last year. I miss it. (It’s a sickness.)

  106. Nienke says:

I’ve been eyeing this book for a long time! I just started quilting, currenlty working on my 3rd (mini)quilt top and this book is exactly my style 🙂

I still have to come up with a crazy idea for my scraps. My craziest so far, for fleece scraps, is tying them together and making cat toys from them. They looove strings of fleece and it’s so much fun to play with them and the strings. Even the slightest unexpected movement from the string will make them go crazy :).

  118. Kate says:

I made a big log cabin quilt with scraps of my mom’s. That’s not very crazy really, but I actually don’t even like many of the scraps now (I made it 15 years ago), though overall I still like the quilt, especially because my grandma ended up hand-quilting it for me because she was laid up with a broken ankle and didn’t have any of her own quilts to work on, so I was a martyr and let her quilt mine for me. (ha! if this hadn’t happened, I’m not sure the quilting would be finished yet today!) Ok, I think this qualifies as a crazy story anyway. steeplechaser29 at yahoo dot com

  119. JennOveeV says:

i made my own breast pads because I didn’t want to go to the store and keep buying them..not to crazy but more resourcful lol

Hi. I am new to quilting and admire Amandajean’s quilts and blog. I would love to win her book. For now, my daughters and I practice stitching on my scraps. My email is trepar2(at)yahoo(dot)com

Saving even little tiny pieces would be the craziest thing I guess. I just recently threw away a huge bag because I knew I could never use them.

  122. Julie says:

I having been saving my scraps for a long time. A couple of months ago I gave a big bag of them to a friend to use. I’m so happy they found a good home and now I don’t have to look at them and feel quilty. Thanks for the chance!

The craziest thing I do with scraps is keeping pieces that are smaller than 1.5″ square;. And I have to say, I think Aurifil upped the pretty embroidery floss packaging-ante. I never remember if email is in my profile so, anotheryarn[at]yahoo[dot]com.

Not too crazy, but I made a lap quilt entirely out of scraps. I think I even pieced the batting together! The only thing I had to buy was some binding fabric.

    Thanks!

I really haven’t done anything wild with my scraps. I usually use them to make donation quilts. However, my granddaughters love them and have stitched them together in some pretty wild combinations and used them for their dolls.

  131. My best scrap use was a set of 26 quilted fabric letters for a kiddo with sensory issues. She *loved* touching and manipulating her alphabet.

The craziest thing I have done with scraps was give them away! Ha. (In all seriousness, they went to an excellent home.) But my husband thinks I am crazy with I leave fabric scraps (thin strips and threads) around the yard for the birds in the spring.

  147. I Have not done a lot with my scraps. I sort through them more than anything, looking for just the perfect scrap to finish another sewing project. Maybe if I win a wonderful book I will use them to make a quilt 🙂
Thanks for the chance to win. kogrady@lewiston.com

  148. maureen says:

I’ve made several scrap quilts for family members, but haven’t gotten around to making one for myself yet. That’s next on my list!
The most unusual thing I’ve done with scraps though was to make a “scrappy lampshade” (I ripped the fabric off the wire frame and then cut fabric into thin strips and knotted them onto the frame) It’s colorful, cheerful, and unique!

  149. I have been wanting this book since before Christmas. I haven’t done anything too crazy with my scraps, but I find myself using them for lots of little projects – small bags, luggage tags, pot holders. Some of them are even cut up into squares and strips, ready for a quilt. (barb2124(at)comcast(dot)net.

  152. Me? Crazy? I am close to being deemed certifiable with saving my scraps, I need to find more time in my day to actually do something with them! They are overflowing! …or assign myself time to reduce/reuse! I love that book! TIA! B-)

  153. Right now I am making nursing pads with my flannel and batting scraps. I’ve made baby mobiles with my quilting scraps. Don’t know if that classifies as “crazy” though 🙂

  155. Jean says:

Two years ago I used my scraps cut 1.25″ square to make a quilt with over 14,000 pieces to represent a portion of the Alzheimers care givers in Iowa, at that time. I used 1.5 ” sashing and corner posts and 2″ scrappy borders and scrappy binding. I then donated it to the Alzheimers Assoc. for a fund-raiser, but I haven’t heard if they have done that yet.

  156. Heidi says:

So far I haven’t done anything crazy with my scraps. They are stuffed in glass canning jars right now. We are in the middle of a short succession of multiple moves, but I hope to be able to do some scrappy sewing in September!

  157. I recently made an entire quilt with my scraps and I supplied a new quilters scrap bin with half of my scraps. I had many!! Thanks for the chance to win what appears to be a great book!

  158. Kristina says:

i piece anything less than 1-1/2″ strips either into string quilts or crumb blocks. i guess there is nothing crazy about that though!

  172. Sarah says:

I gathered up some scraps and made a patchwork soft book for a little friend of mine who was learning his colors. It had 10 pages each with a different color of scraps pieced together in 10 different designs. Maybe not so crazy, but it was cute and the baby learned his colors in no time!

  173. Cindy says:

It’s not really crazy but if I’m using some of my favorite fabrics, I’ll put the littlest, tiniest pieces in a plastic bag. So later, when I’m going through my bins, I’ll run across these baggies full of little tiny scraps-just makes me laugh at myself. Thanks for the chance!:)

  179. Mary says:

My grandchildren are visiting, I have been doing some improvisational block piecing with my 6 year old grandson, and having a blast while doing so. Will and I have been creating his designs in fabric as well. He sketches his new quilt in great detail, we “shop” for fabric in Grandma’s stash, then construct his vision together. He tells me he needs to really practice his sewing while he’s with me since his Momma doesn’t sew. A year ago I would not have dreamed I would be having an improv quilt camp-learn to sew with my grandson.

  180. Angela says:

I don’t have very many scraps as I’m a new quilter, but I’d love to win that book

  181. ELNM says:

  182. From what I have seen on the blog, it looks like a darling book, and I’d love to win it. Craziest thing I’ve done with my scraps? English paper piecing with the wrong side out. It looks interesting that way!

  183. Lisa says:

I would love a copy of Amanda’s book! I have wanted it so bad for so long! The craziest thing I ever made with scraps? Well I made a hat once, it looked so bad my mother told menot to wear it! Then I tried to make a stroller blanket before Iknewhow to sew. I had a bunch of scraps someone gave me and didn’t realize you had to have a straight edge to sew, itwas a mess! I love to make scrappy quilts – the first one (and the biggest) was a scrappy strip quilt that my grandson now has – he loves it. I would love to win the book. I’m planning a stop at Olive Juice next week.

  192. Tiffany says:

I have a slight obsession with quilts. It’s like they’re home and I’m homesick without them. All of my quilts were passed down for generations in my family and each is deeply treasured. The problem is they have been loved so much they’re starting to fall apart. Sadly, they sit in the closet because I haven’t trusted my sewing skills to mend them. I’m happy to report I have signed up for a class on April 6th to improve my stitches and am hoping to give my quilts life again. I can’t wait until I can start making my own treasures to pass down to my children.

  201. Not much in the crazy department – but I do love to put together scraps from my children’s clothing ( I made all their clothes) and make little quilted lunch bags or grocery shopping bags of many colors. Every time I am at a grocery store, I am complimented on my bags- very much rainbowy and colorful. I have sold a few- to my surprise. Would love to have this lovely book. So nice of you to make this offer.

  203. KWILEY says:

Oh – I love seeing the projects that have come out of this book in blogland – would love to bring it home so I can too make these lovely projects! Thanks for hosting a give-away!

I’ve made a postage stamp quilt, on a recent BOM i saved on my scraps and ended up making a bunch of extra blocks to make up my backing – so of the pieces in those blocks were further “pieced” from scraps to be able to make a full unit! I also must admit I have a tiny jar that also holds the tiny dog-ears I snipped off of a full quilt project (why am I keeping those?) I don’t know – if my husband finds it for sure they will be tossed -he’ll think I’m going nuts keeping them! Then of course the ever growing unused scrap pile…… Thank you again for sharing! Love your blog and tutorials you have shared as well! kwiley(AT)comcast(DOT)net

I really like the looks of this book and it is all that much better being a giveaway. I love to do patchwork and applique and those are a great way for me to use my scraps. Mostly I like to cut odd shapes and applique them on fabric. You just never know what it will look like in the end.

The craziest thing I ever did was throw some scraps away! An entire trash bag full! I was in a nesting phase of my pregnancy, and I couldn’t stand my messy craft room anymore! I regretted it about a week later when I was looking for a specific color! Thanks for the giveaway! 🙂

  211. Patty says:

The craziest thing I ever did with fabric scraps was to make a king size quilt; I even machine quilted it using my regular size sewing machine. How’s that for crazy ???? Actually I made the quilt from used men’s cotton shirts; each shirt was cut into various strips of fabric before being used to make 12-inch quilt blocks. I love the quilt a lot but this most likely will be the last time I make one this size; I’d like to stay away from crazy, once is enough :O) My e-mail is sewsecret (at) g-mail (dot) com.

  212. Angie says:

I love my fabric scraps! I’m not so great at using them, but I do enjoy organizing them and making them into random blocks that will probably never become quilts.

  213. Margaret says:

I use every bit of fabric I can and the rest go ino a bag and get donated to the local Humane Society to make beds for dogs and cats. I did once take scraps and using mod podge glued them to a pig piece of plywood to make a large board to cover an ugly wall in a rental we lived in once upon a time.

  214. Messy Mouse says:

The craziest thing I ever made with fabric scraps was a teeny tiny Christmas stocking. It was only a few inches long and couldn’t hold a candy cane… not the smartest creation.

  215. I seriously want that book!! I don’t do anything too crazy — I give a lot away to my art therapist friend for use with her clients, and I give them to my kids’ friends who show an interest in my fabric. Their eyes light up when I show them the scraps bin!

The craziest thing I do is keep them – even the really little tiny ones. Fabric is just soooo pretty I can’t waste even a tiny bit!

  218. Jake says:

Well, I keep my scraps organized by color in a ziploc bags….they were busting at the seams! So, I decided to get creative. I made a piece of fabric by random ing sewing scraps together, being careful to keep each fabric piece all pieced out of theat color family. Then, I used each piece of fabric and a coordinating zipper (from zipit!) and made a nice open wide pouch lined with muslin….and then filled up each pouch with the corresponding fabric scraps. It was fast, fun and I love it! Is that too crazy organized. I keep my zippers sorted by color and length too… Crazy or not, I love the pouches and my scraps!
And Anna, I love your patterns and your instructions! I’ve learned so much from you!
Thank you so much for the chance to win this book. It looks awesome!

Oh I love this book! I cannot count the times I have talked myself out of purchasing it. I throw all of my smaller scraps into a bin and my daughter plays “quilt shop” with them. Thanks for offering the book as a giveaway. I keep borrowing it from my library and renewing it over and over again. I’d love to have my own copy.

The craziest thing? About 10 years ago we women at my church made quilts to give away. I gathered the scraps and stitched them together into squares, then sewed them into a quilt. Back then it was an unknown concept (to me and everyone else I knew) but these days those little scraps are called crumbs and after stitched the blocks are called made fabric. 240. I’ve been looking at this lovely book, great projects inside! I have scraps in all different sizes. If I can’t use a scrap in a quilt then I see if I can use it for applique, maybe a leaf? hehe. I hate to throw anything away. I have salveges saved as well. One day I will do something crazy with them all, except saving them.

Thank you for a super giveaway and a chance to win.

When I first started quiltly a neighbor gave me left over scraps. Being a college studentif I wanted to see I had to use them. I made several projects from them, my favorite being a”house quilt”. Every window, roof and door in each of 50+ blocks is a different fabric and it is much loved at our home!

  250. Heather says:

This year for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I decided to use scraps in each month’s chosen color to complete a quilt by Bonnie Hunter. Well, I began with making 17 scrappy pink bowties and still had pink leftover. I made 38 little 4-patches for the next pattern in the book and still there were pink scraps in the bin. So finally, I began making 7 “wild Child” blocks with stripy centers and desert cactus HSTs and whittled the pick scraps down to a Baggie full. So what started out as a simple monthly project has become a ginormous 3 monthly projects (and each step has been also repeated in purple and orange, so far)!

  253. Pam says:

I have made a collage of fabrics with scraps on flannel, quilted it with free motion, washed and dried it, and then made a nice holder for my small quilting tools! Very fun project!

  254. vjwildman says:

Yikes! I haven’t generated enough scraps yet to do anything wild. I do have a collection of several hundred 1.5″ squares from an online fabric store that used to sell collections of them so you could see samples of all the fabrics they sold. I started laying those out for a postage stamp quilt, envisioning using English Paper Piecing to sew the 1″ finished size pieces together, but then saw the method used by Elizabeth Hartman (with lightweight stabilizer), so thought I should give that a try. Would love to win the book – thanks for the chance.

I am a retired nursery school teacher. The school I taught at was at a nature center and our curriculum was nature based. In the early spring, our class tore some tiny strips of my oldest, ugliest scraps and arranged them on tree branches near our classroom. As we went for walks later in the spring, we could observe bits of our fabric woven into birds’ nests in the wooded area surrounding our school. The children marveled that they were a part of nature.

  275. Izzie says:

I make t-shirt “quilts” (really they’re more like blankets) that leave tons of t-shirt scraps. I also live in a wicked draughty building and did not want to go through the hassle of taking the air-conditioner out of window. Tons of t-shirt scraps + draughty window air-conditioning unit = T-shirt draught blocker! My room has been warm and relatively draft-free ever since.
My other scraps from other projects are stored in every nook and cranny I can find and I would love this book to help me reduce the clutter!

  293. Crazy? I am a garbage sifter. After a sewing day with friends I sift through the garbage for their thrown away tidbits. Once a friend gave me a 1/4 inch by 3 inch piece of fabric and said, “I would like to see you do something with this.” I got out some twine, knotted the fabric to the twine and continued taking their cast offs until we had a 6 foot twine fabric garland. It was so pretty and my friends quit giving me a hard time about my garbage sifting. ;).

Scraps – well, the best thing I have done with them is use them to cut out/applique letters/words onto plain items (pillowcases, bibs). The craziest is actually just save them and hope I remember what I have – I should get them organized into strips and squares at least – it makes me stressed to have bags/boxes of stuff when I don’t really know what’s in there.

  305. Kristy says:

My daughter is heading to Panama with the Peace Corps. Quilts always mark big events but what to do for this one? I haphazardly stripped pieces together and then cut them into 16 12 inch blocks. Bound each individually and then added buttons on all four corners, front and back. Hair bands attach them together. She can use the quilt as a room divider, individual place mats, a window covering-whatever she needs, wherever she lands!

I don’t get to keep many of my scraps. They somehow find their way to my 5 yr olds room and he uses them to create all kinds of things. 330. Sandy says:

Sometimes, I hate scraps–especially of fabric I end up not liking all that much. Then came my “ah-ha” moment: I had all these scraps after making a quilt top. There were 3 or 4 sizable pieces, but the majority were less than 3″ wide; most were about 14″ to 16″ in length. I was short on backing fabric, so I just pieced all the scraps into a long crazy combo of irregularly striped narrow strips, straightened the sides, and incorporated it as part of the otherwise solid backing. I liked it so much, I did it again the next time I made a quilt. Now the backs have as much appeal at the fronts. The scraps don’t pile up. Best of all, I can justify buying more fabric.

  331. Rebekah says:

I used to save the really thin strips… too thin to use for other sewing projects. One year, I used them instead of ribbon for wrapping. One friend pointed out that the cotton was compostable, so all the wrapping was green! If they can be sewn, they get saved for future projects.

  344. Cheryl says:

It’s crazy that I save tiny fabric scraps because part of my brain thinks I’m going to make a postage-stamp quilt someday… I’m not sure how I’m going to pull that off when the other side of my brain knows I get bored if I have to work on the same quilt for more than 2 weeks!

Right now I’m forcing my way through my scraps. They’re already divided by color so I’ve been taking one bag of a color, cutting them into three different width strips and sewing those strips into ginormous strips and then making log cabin pillows with them. The craziest thing I’ve done with scraps is use them to make cute potholders.. not so crazy I guess!

  366. diane says:

I don’t know how crazy it is but my granddaughters love to go through my scraps and “sew” with them.

  367. Would love the book! thestewartsix[at]bellsouth[dot]net

I have used some of my moms scraps that I inherited to make cosmetic bags together with my 10 year old daughter as thank you gifts for her guests of her spa birthday party. The entire project was priceless.

This book has been on my wish list for quite some time. Crazy hmmm…I seem to be better at accumulating scraps rather than using them;)Recently, I used scraps to mend four dishtowels that had developed some holes, and in my opinion, they turned out very cute. Love your blog Anna and thanks for the chance to win something wonderful!! Deb

  374. Beach Angel says:

I’ve made dog toys with scraps, which they promptly tore up!

  375. Well, I’ve never really done anything crazy with them but a friend of mine told me that she kept all her’s and used them as packaging material! 🙂
    Thanks for the chance.

  376. Jennifer says:

Most folks would consider me crazy for giving them away. Some times I regret it too but in the end I end up helping out another quilter who lives on a low income.

  377. Linh says:

I am just starting out but I have already accumulated some from my projects and just kept everything from each project in ziplock bags. Eventually I’ll probably make a rug with them, believe me this sound crazy to my hubby. Linhs4real@aol.com

  378. Dee says:

I am not good about using my scraps, yet I can’t throw them away. Maybe someday…

  379. I am a hoarder too! I hate to admit that! I’ve even bought other’s scraps to hoard too! Eeek!
But, the craziest thing is to sew them one-layer with no seams onto a batting scrap and make boxes/bins from them- kinda like the bins in Sunday Morning Quilts.

  380. I don’t know if I’ve done anything crazy with them, but I have a huge drawer of scrap strips and when i can, I make string blocks to someday make a huge quilt for the king size bed in our guest room.

Thanks for the giveaway! I’d love to win this book!
