I was lucky enough to sew up a few cute little items in Rae‘s newest collection for Cloud 9 fabrics: Lotus Pond. I had to stop myself from drooling when Rae first showed a few sneak peeks at the prints. These beauties are scheduled to arrive at quilt shops at the end of May. I know my girls went crazy over them, trying to hoard every little scrap. So I’m almost sure I’ll find myself doing the same when they come out.
Anyway, this Road Trip Case was a fun way to show off a bunch of the prints. Aren’t they so pretty together? This case will be in the Cloud 9’s booth at Quilt Market coming up in a few weeks.
I have a couple other little projects that I made with the leftover scraps, too! Can’t wait to show you them.
Oh, and I’ve been using my V and Co. Aurifil sampler pack in 28wt for topstitching when I want the stitches to really stand out. I love it.

I just love it. The case and the fabric!!
Lovely project! Great fabrics, useful case!!!
Esther
Beautiful as always!
Love those fabrics! And the case is great too!
That topstitching is awesome! The thread weight is heavier? It never occurred to me to look for anything like that. Hmm. Now I’m wondering if they stock that at the chain fabric stores…
Yep, the 28wt is heavier. It comes in such great colors, too!
Ack! The little snails are perfect as is your stitching!:)
Aww, love the line of wee snails!
Those quilted rows of orange lotuses are exquisite. I might copy that for my iPad cover 🙂
This case is the best one yet!! I cannot tell from the pictures, but it looks like you did not use the see through vinyl.
I did use the vinyl actually. The first pictures it’s hard to see, but the last pic you can see the glare off the vinyl. It’s totally do-able without vinyl too, if that’s your preference! 🙂
Oh, I see that now as I look closer 🙂 Thank you so much for replying. I am all ready to make three cases for my grandchildren’s trip this summer with fabric they picked out. Love your patterns! The super tote made a great dance bag for my granddaughter 🙂 I am going to make another one for me! – Karen (Jensarat Designs)
sew Adorable!
Oh my gosh, I loooove this! So excited for this line!
Love the case! And that fabric is on my have to buy list. I want a bolt of each. I just subscribed to Rae’s site so I will know when it is available. Thanks for sharing the fabric peak and your awesome case made with it.
Totally adorable!!!!!
Ooooo it’s so pretty. It really shows off the pretty lotus pond so well! I have to figure out what to make with mine. 😉
It is great to see, what you can do with some different fabric.
Love your work so very much!

i love my road trip case! and rae’s fabrics are darling. i think even my big girls are going to go crazy over them.
oh MAN you really made these look fantastic!! Love the road trip case! My kids *just* started getting into rainbow looms — this pattern is brilliant. 🙂
thanks Rae, it was totally easy with these gorgeous colors and prints! and yay, gotta hook them up with a Road Trip Case. 🙂
You are rockin another great fabric combo. I wonder if it come easy to you or if you switch things up as you go. I spend way too much time trying to pick a good combo then usually end up changing things up as I go. I am so not good at color…. I’m a graphic designer you’d think it would come natural…. Ah no! 😉 thanks for sewing and sharing. I look fwd to your posts!
thanks so much Steph! I hear ya, it’s sometimes more challenging than others. Usually I get a feel for what fabrics might work best depending on the scale of the prints, other times it’s the colors. Whatever works for you is great! And changing things up as you go is all part of it. 🙂
I love it! Where do you get your zippers? That one is a perfect size!
I get 95% of my zippers from zipit on etsy. 🙂
I have three road trip cases just awaiting their binding- I keep making more to avoid the binding bit! Did you hand sew one side on this case, or machine sew both sides?
oh fun! You’ll do great, but I know what you mean. I did hand sew this one on the final side, the others I’ve done by machine, but I wanted this one to be it’s most perfect that I could get it. 🙂
